And Heaton did not look good in this at all. I always thought she was cute but not here.

Very disappointed in this one. Hank was just awful.

Liked it. Just wish it wasn't Heaton-centric and hated the narration. Don't get me wrong, I like Heaton, but I just don't think she can carry the show. I don't think any of the characters are strong enough to carry the show.

Re: The Middle -- New Series with Patricia Heaton -- Debuts 9/30/09

The Cheerleader:

Spoiler:

Frankie organizes a publicity stunt featuring a car full of jelly beans; Sue doesn't make the swim team and learns she needs glasses; and Brick develops an alternative reading program. Mr. Ehlert: Brian Doyle-Murray.

Bumping this up since this had moderate interest last week. Won't bother with Hank since pretty much 99.9% of this forum hated it.

This show's a season pass keeper.

Yeah, I enjoyed the second episode. Definite potential here.

Is it me or does Brian Doyle Murray look like absolute shit? I mean, he looks so different to me than what I remember him in the last thing I saw. Maybe he's gained a bunch of weight or something, but he looks bad.

Caught most of this tonight and it just struck me as a cross between Malcolm in the Middle and your run-of-the-mill generic sitcom. Pass!

Also, whatever that show is that's before this one with Kelsey Grammer...fucking garbage.

It is moderately funny. I love the youngest son, but the daughter being completely inept at everything yet continues to try out for everything is already tired. And Axel schlumping around the house in only boxers 80% is so overdone that it is breeding ground for pedophile central.

Also, I get that they're poor but if every episode is about miserable poverty and escaping the latest family financial crisis, I may dump it. I mean the Connors on Roseanne were poor but rarely did the entire episode focus on needing money...

I think this is the best new comedy show of the season. I guess I just like these type of malcom in the middle shows.

That little boy always had me

I guess I am in the minority here.. I love this show and find Modern Family boring.

I'm with you on that. Modern Family strikes me as veteran sitcom writers trying to fit in with the modern trend towards single-camera comedies, and not very successfully.

Enjoying this show. I hate Patricia Heaton, so from the start I didn't want to like the show, but I've liked the past 2 episodes. Earned a spot on my DVR

Re: The Middle -- New Series with Patricia Heaton -- Debuts 9/30/09

This show is the best of the 4 ABC comedies on Wednesday night. I rank them in this order.

1. The Middle
2. Modern Family
3. Cougar Town (might drop)
4. Hank (have dropped)

Also, the actor playing Axl is 19 years old.

The Middle -- "The Floating Anniversary" -- 10/14/09

The Middle

Synopsis:

Spoiler:

Frankie and Mike's romantic anniversary plans are sidetracked by complications including Brick's illness, Sue's heartbreak, Axl and his learner's permit, and a diaper-clad dog.

Figured since this got a full season and has been pretty well received here, that this now deserves a weekly thread.

This episode was not as funny as last week... but seeing that hound dog in with the oxygen mask

However I still enjoy it.

Yeah, didn't like this one as much as last week, but it still had it's moments.

You must really want to be an actor if you're a teenager who spends half his time in nothing but boxers.

Really? I felt that the "we're so poor and miserable" tone was significantly lighter this time and enjoyed it much more. The ending in the park was both touching and hilarious. It certainly helps in understanding why those two work as husband and wife.

I loved when Brick decided to go and get a doughnut during the sales meeting while no one was supposed to know he was there.

I'm finding myself enjoying every character on this show except Patricia Heaton's. Unfortunately, she gets 75% of the camera time.
