Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee -- Jerry Seinfeld (now on Netflix)

A new web series from Jerry Seinfeld. The first episode features Larry David, the next episode features Ricky Garvais. If you like Curb Your Enthusiasm, then you'll love this:

Second episode is up. Surprised this hasn't received more attention. I've loved both episodes so far.

I thought the first episode was stupendous, found the second a little lacking (but still funny).

I heard about this but keep forgetting to check it out. Jerry Seinfeld is one of my favorites so I'm definitely interested. I'll have to take a look at it later when I'm at home.

Watched all three so far. Great little series, nice to see Jerry doing something new again even if it is just short little webisodes. I could watch Jerry and Larry just go on for hours.

Jerry's web site:
http://jerryseinfeld.com/
It's hidden in the text in yellow writing.

I watch it on Crackle, which also helps for watching it on other devices (blu-ray player, ps3, etc): http://www.crackle.com/c/Comedians_I...Getting_Coffee

I liked the first episode, but the others aren't that remarkable. Jerry is cracking up much harder than I am. I guess it proves the strength of the ensemble, when anything he's done post-Seinfeld show hasn't even been close.

Yes and no. Seinfeld is for sure a classic but he really hasn't done all that much (aside from stand-up) since it ended. He's really only done the documentary Comedian which was a pretty good and interesting film I thought. He also did Bee Movie which is fine for a kid's film. The Marriage Ref is probably the biggest miss he's had, but I think it would've done better if he'd been on screen more since the way it was marketed they used his name a lot and I think people expected him to be on it more. He was basically only in a couple episodes and the rest he just produced though. The season of Curb Your Enthusiasm which he and the rest of the cast of Seinfeld appeared was also pretty brilliant if you ask me. Now he's got this new web series which I think is good for what it is and entertaining enough.

I don't think Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee is striving to be anything groundbreaking or something. Just a basic little show with Jerry and his pals talking about whatever.

I've been enjoying these a lot. They're just the perfect length for what they are.

A lot of the outtakes are funnier than the episode content.

Weird observation: on other people's recommendation, I watched the 'Spare Parts' extras for every guest on http://comediansincarsgettingcoffee.com/ .... I think, counting the main episodes and the outtakes, Jerry's brought up homosexuality with every person. "Do we kind of look like a gay couple?" "If we were gay, this would be a pretty good date" etc ... new interest other than Superman and being a neat freak?

Has anyone still been watching this? I really like the show a lot still and tomorrow is the finale for this year at least. The finale is going to have Jerry and Michael Richards and it looks like it'll be a fun episode from the preview. Hopefully this show gets a DVD release eventually.

Agreed the last one with Reiner and Brooks was awesome. The one a few weeks back with Bob Einstein was pretty good too. It really is a fun little web show to watch and is the perfect length for what it is.

I am late to this, so the Michael Richards episode was my first. It was an incredibly interesting, and touching, piece of video.

Not that it matters in what order but they are all on Seinfelds web site and Crackle so you could have watched all six of them in order

Oh I know. I just forgot this existed until a day or two ago when I saw someone post the MR episode. I'm going to go back and watch them all now for sure.

The Brooks/Reiner episode is just all kinds of brilliant. Why can't someone give us a reality show featuring the two of them?

The episode with Michael Richards was great. Really fun to see Jerry and Michael just shooting the breeze and hanging out. Michael Richards seems like he's a pretty interesting guy and I'd love to see him pop up on the show again sometime. I really hope Jerry does some more of these soon as it's just a really enjoyable little series.

re: Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee -- Jerry Seinfeld (now on Netflix)

Kind of an old article but this web series is coming back for a second season with twenty four new episodes. I'm pretty excited for it as I really loved the first batch of episodes!

By BILL CARTER
Published: January 6, 2013

Jerry Seinfeld and Sony Pictures Television have decided to produce a second season of the short-run, experimental Internet series that Mr. Seinfeld created last year, “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” a decision that mimics those made when a new comedy on television gets an order for a second season.

But the whole idea behind the Internet show, Mr. Seinfeld said, was to try to break into a medium other than TV. The decision to produce 24 new episodes, to be announced Monday, puts Mr. Seinfeld and Sony on the same track as sites like Netflix — which has forthcoming series like “Arrested Development” and “House of Cards” — in testing the waters to see if original, network-quality entertainment can emerge on the Internet.

“It’s kind of a new paradigm that we’re trying to create,” Mr. Seinfeld said in a telephone interview, referring to himself and Sony. “I think we both were craving that little sandbox feeling we had when we started out.”

Now they need to chase the same thing that other creators of original Internet content have been after: profits.

“This next go-round we’re going to have to figure out some sort of revenue stream, so it makes more sense,” Mr. Seinfeld said.

The first 10 episodes of “Comedians in Cars” contain no advertising and appear free on the Sony Web site Crackle and at comediansincarsgettingcoffee.com, the show’s own site. The format is a talk show of sorts that features Mr. Seinfeld riding around in vintage cars with friends in the comedy business, making detours to converse over food and coffee. Steve Mosko, the president of Sony Pictures Television, said that almost as soon as Mr. Seinfeld’s new show began appearing, “high-end advertisers were banging on our doors” seeking some level of sponsorship. But, he said, Mr. Seinfeld did not want to turn the first season “into something that gets cluttered.”

Mr. Seinfeld said he was taking ideas that held personal interest and adapting them for the Internet. “I thought of all the things I liked,” he said, which included almost anything about cars, talking with other comics, and coffee in its various forms. He put that together with his observation that all around him “people were watching stuff on phones and pads,” and he concluded, “Well, this is stuff I like, and this could be a match.”

Besides, he said, the show might have special appeal for “comedy geeks,” who “were missing a little piece of the puzzle — the kind of idiotic relationships that we have that are a big part of this life.”

Mr. Seinfeld said he never thought of the concept as something for traditional television; he loved the flexibility of the Internet, particularly no fixed duration for any of the episodes. (Each one runs about 11 to 17 minutes, and guests have included his old “Seinfeld” partner Larry David, Ricky Gervais, Alec Baldwin and Mel Brooks.)

Mr. Seinfeld said he took the idea initially to executives at several Internet-based companies, drawing strong interest. “It was just too hard to explain, and they started asking the usual questions, and I started getting that not-good feeling: Oh, I’m back in the old game,” he said. “And I don’t want to play the old game. I played that game. I want to play a new game.”

He turned to Sony because it distributes the repeats of his sitcom, and he had a good relationship with Mr. Mosko. Mr. Seinfeld owns the “Comedians in Cars” show, and Sony will continue to serve as backer and distributor.

Mr. Mosko said the studio was more than pleased with the first season, which he said attracted more than 10 million unique visitors to Crackle. Developing Internet programming is a crucial part of Sony’s future, he said.

“What’s missing in developing programming for the Internet is patience, trying to get it right,” he said. “We’re both looking at this as a long-term investment.”

As for revenue streams, some form of sponsorship is likely to be attached to the new episodes when they start appearing this spring. But only if advertising can be integrated in the right way, Mr. Mosko said, adding, “We know there’s an opportunity there.”

re: Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee -- Jerry Seinfeld (now on Netflix)

So I see that season two of this is starting on Thursday June 13th. One complaint I have, am I the only one who has issues with the Crackle videos for this show? It seems like whenever I go to watch it on their web site (using Chrome) it stutters like crazy and the video and audio don't seem in sync. I downloaded their app on my phone and it works perfectly fine though. Annoying.

I use Roku and it looks fine.

I thiught there was going to be lots of eps in season two. So far only 6 have been released, the last at least three weeks ago.
