"From the legendary director . . . " seems a bit much.

IDK, The Professional and The Fifth Element are great (and it is amazing Lucy made what it did).

And he's sort of seen that way in Europe. Has been for years.

I love ALL those movies. I just find it rather pretentious when marketers turn to that kind of hyperbole to sell movies. "From the director of" should be enough, especially when they can underline it with a number of titles from a fairly respected filmography, as they do here. Almost makes me think they know they're facing an uphill battle, at least in some markets, so every gush is needed.

Besson is one of my favorite directors. I would never call him legendary.

Poster looks like they're really trying to pull in the YA crowd.

Did this thing really take 5 years to make, or was it put to the side for a while after the initial announcement?

Looks cool. I'm in.

It has a $180m budget, so it probably took a few years to secure all the funds, get all the rights, write/re-write/doctor the script, etc;

It filmed from early to mid 2016 so that part is pretty normal.

They're released in English editions. Why would they need to re-release them?

They'll be releasing a new HC collection of the original stories. The first two volumes have already been announced/solicited.

Hopefully they are successful enough to collect the entire series- as I would love to have all the albums in nice permanent editions.

Very much looking forward to the film, however I have big concerns about Delevingne who strikes me as another model who can pose in front of a green screen but can't really express a personality.
One of the big pleasures of the comic was the relationship between Valarian and Laureline. It's almost a Nick/Nora or Moonlighting type dynamic.
I'm not getting much sense of chemistry in the trailer.

They're advertising this hard. And well in advance. I keep seeing the ad skin on lots of websites. A new trailer is supposed to come out tomorrow.

Looks like a mix of Men in Black and The Fifth Element with a few YA elements.

I'm still in.

Still not getting any hint of real chemistry between the two leads.

All those mouth watering visuals are going to go to waste if the two central characters don't show any spark of life together.

I know there's plenty of Besson fans here but this one just isn't grabbing me. The visuals looks great but I'm getting a very Ender's Game/John Carter feel from that trailer.

Having Rihanna pop up didn't help things either.
