The Monster...this was a pretty good little creature feature. Very different role for Kazan and I could have done with a little less exposition, but overall well done and the creature was pretty unique and fierce. Satisfying ending.

I watched the 1994 remake of The Getaway after Amazon had it for $2.99 recently. This is probably my last HD DVD that still hasn't made it to BD. It's not the unrated cut, unfortunately.

One False Move...nice Bill Paxton starrer. Great little crime thriller. Much more brutal than I expected. Would have liked the final act not wrap so quickly, but well done, good movie.

Moonlight...fantastic. unexpected. powerful. beautiful. glacial paced, but always magnetic. powerful acting. i will say that i am perplexed by Ali's win considering his screen time. i really expected him to be in the film much more and from what i heard i was pulling for him to win, which he did, but i thought it was for much more than this. only minor gripe, but way to go Jenkins and crew.

I've been watching Ultimate Beastmaster on Netflix. It's not as good as American Ninja Warrior, but it's a fun way to pass the time. The hosts really get on my nerve when they chant USA! USA! constantly....

Nocturnal Animals...a little too arty for my taste. Thought the story within the story was great and wish that was the movie, but Ford was making some parellels between both the real world and fictitious one that I just didn't get. Gyllenhal, Shannon and especially Johnson were great. Adams was fine. I guess I just didn't get it and wish I did. As it is, it was an ok movie.

Watched a couple of apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic movies on Netflix:
These Final Hours - Aussie film about the last few hours before the extinction-level effects of an asteroid strike in the Atlantic ocean reach Australia. Other movies have tread similar ground (Last Night, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World), but I still enjoyed this. It's small and personal and ultimately uplifting rather than nihilistic.
The Last Survivor - a girl and her friends are the last holdouts against a ruthless water baron in a drought-stricken valley. Pretty well-made in terms of the look and the tone, though there are a lot of implausibilities in the story and actions of the characters. A much better take on a similar theme is Young Ones with Michael Shannon.

The Complex (streamed via Shudder) - Director Hideo Nakata (Ringu) returns to the decaying apartment block setting that made his Dark Water so creepy, but The Complex ultimately fails to live up to the scares found in his previous films. Pretty nursing student Asuka moves with her family to a new apartment complex so that she can be close to her school, but on the first day of classes she finds out from a fellow student that her complex is haunted. She also has a next-door neighbor who is often heard but never seen, and her parents keep repeating the same conversation at breakfast every morning. And then there's that lonely boy on the complex's playground.... This film might have worked with a better script, but as it stands, all the plot strands don't come together neatly, and the horror setpieces, except for one involving Asuka's neighbor, lack any real sense of terror. It's worth seeing once if you're a J-Horror enthusiast, but otherwise, it's safe to skip it.

Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai...really takes off and kicks ass when he goes after mob. I love how they make them like Sopranos type characters. Unfit, fat, and pretty stupid. Fun movie.

I finished Love Season Two and watched the first season of Love Sick formerly known as Scrotal Recall. It has an odd premise (a guy gets chlamydia and revisits all the women that he had sex with) , but it's a really good show with a lot of heart.
