No Brendan Fraser means I'll gladly welcome this reboot.
The first movie is forgettable, the second terrible, and the third abysmal.
I never even bothered with the Scorpion King movies. Who cares?

Maybe they can put a Scooby-doo style scene where the mummy is walking and someone grabs a loose bandage. They run and the mummy spins round and round while being unbandaged.

Len Wiseman has exited Universal's reboot of "The Mummy," which is still moving full-speed ahead.
Scheduling issues have forced Wiseman to leave the project.
Producers Sean Daniels, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will begin searching for a new director immediately.
Jon Spaihts wrote the script, which aims to reinvent the "Mummy" series, which grossed $1.25 billion over the course of three films.
Wiseman previously indicated that Kurtzman and Orci were envisioning a darker, scarier take on the "Mummy" mythology that would still appeal to all audiences. Though The Mummy character is a monster, the reboot is expected to provide him with a human personality.
Kurtzman has previously said that the film draws inspiration from the books of Michael Crichton, who grounded fantastical tales in modern-day science.
Wiseman's last film was Sony's poorly-received remake of "Total Recall," which grossed only $58 million in the U.S. on a reported production budget of $125 million.

I had to look up this Andres Muschietti guy cause I'd never heard of him before. He hasn't directed much and the only thing of his that I've seen is Mama which I found atmospheric but flawed. In any event, I'll take him over Wiseman any day.
As long as this new Mummy flick is more horror and less Indiana Jones I'll be happy.

Christopher Lee in The Mummy (1959) is the only really threatening mummy I've seen, and I've seen quite a bit. It's like watching The Terminator made 25 years earlier. He walks quickly and in a straight line toward his victim with the intention of killing and nothing else, and he's indestructible. He punches a heavy door off its hinges, takes two shotgun blasts to the chest, and gets impaled on a harpoon without slowing down. The only thing missing is Peter Cushing giving Michael Biehn's Terminator speech: "It absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead."
There was another mummy movie called Tale of the Mummy (1998) that did something interesting: the mummy basically had telekinetic control over his wrappings and bandages, so the attack scenes usually involved these ratty old bandages coming through floor vents or something and killing people. Not exactly a masterpiece of film, but worth watching just for that one nice bit of creativity.

Universal is also rebooting Van Helsing. They are supposedly planning to create a new monster universe similar to what Marvel did with setting up The Avengers.
