It was an IMAX 3D exclusive. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix had a similar gimmick where the last 20 minutes switched to 3D in IMAX theaters. After that, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince did just the opening scene in 3D.

Forgot about those- I might have held off buying the box set a while ago if I'd remembered they weren't included in it. The set does include the aborted 3D release of the second-to-last movie, which was called off because the conversion wasn't deemed good enough (I haven't watched it so can't comment on it; saw the last one at an IMAX theater and it was OK though.)

The Potter films directed by David Yates are so oppressively dark that I can't imagine 3D being at all effective on them. On the other hand, I saw Deathly Hallows Part 2 in 2D and was annoyed at how many shots were blatantly staged with gimmicky 3D effects in mind.

Just saw a good review for Inferno 3D. Anyone see it?

Imported my first 3D blu ray, Big Hero 6, and gave it a spin tonight and hot damn does it look good. It's a fucking shame it wasn't released in the states. At least it can be had for cheap, I picked it up for $15 via Prime on Amazon.

Now I'm thinking I might have to pick up a couple more of the Disney blu rays that weren't released here. I'm thinking about Frozen, but are there any others I should look in to?

I have the UK disc that was released a while ago, it's a good movie and well-shot. Only caveat is the sound was originally in stereo but those tracks were lost- if they had managed to find them for the Twilight Time disc I would've bought that but they didn't, so will pass on it.

As for other titles not released in the US, only other Disney I've actually watched so far is Maleficent, thought it was good but nothing to write home about. Step Up All In is great though, Lionsgate really screwed up putting that out in 2D only in the US, the UK edition in 3D is from Universal and it's still region-free.

Ratatouille. I cannot say enough how wonderful the 3D is. It's also my personal Pixar favorite, and the 3D is just top notch. Frozen is also very good as well. I picked up the Zavvi steel when it came out. Overpriced, but I was in it for the content, and the 3D content really delivers.

Is that Ratatouille an all-region disc (and if so where did you get it), or do you have an all-region (or other region) player? Just curious. I would love to get Ratatouille in 3D.

I actually bought it from Giles here on the forum. It's the German release, and it is Region B (even though the disc does have the icon for A/B/C). I do have an all region player, so it wasn't an issue for me. I did try to play it on my PS4 when I got it and it does give the region playback error.

Yeah, Ratatouille isn't going to work for me if it isn't region free. Guess I'll have to stick with the regular blu ray on that one.

I loved Ratatouille the one time I saw it. The 3D is good huh? Any extras? It's region free, right? Who has it, only Zavvi?

Is this one region free? https://www.ebay.com/itm/201947223966

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.

Got the Hong Kong version of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter 3D yesterday. Aside from a sticker on the wrapper written in Chinese, everything about the package looks like it could have been released in North America. It says Region A, B and C on the back, so it played just fine on my American PS3. The 3D adds tons of depth to the film, but I didn't see any pop-out effects. Probably because it was a 2D-to-3D conversion.

I was surprised to see the 3D version of King Arthur: Legend of the Sword for Aug. 8th. It was a flop here in the US, so I didn't think it stood a chance of being released here.

Well, it looks like Disney is hopping off the 3D bandwagon again. Home video details are available for all the following releases this year, and none of them have Blu-ray 3D options:

Beauty and the Beast
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
Cars 3

Maybe they'll come later like The Jungle Book, and Star Wars TFA, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Wanna bet there'll be 3D European editions?

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.

Amazon UK's 3D listings for GUARDIANS 2, PIRATES 5 and BEAUTY all say Region 2/B, but it's way too early to take that as gospel, and I'm reasonably hopeful that won't be the case based on the vast majority of other Disney 3D discs released there (Ratatouille notwithstanding), and the fact that many of those were first listed as Region 2/B before being updated to Region Free.

If true, this is even worse than before. Pixar and Marvel titles were previously exempt from the "No 3D on Blu-ray" rule.

Wasn't the 3D of Rogue One a store exclusive? Maybe they are going that route again. Or planning on double dipping.

There are some pretty strong retailer indications that UHD discs are imminent for at least some of these titles, too, so the Blu-ray release details may not actually be complete.
