Damn... I was hoping they'd adopt the new craze of copying cable's format. I'd be more inclined to watch.

The original was no classic, but entertaining enough. But this...this looks brutally awful, a ball blisteringly terrible pile of festering gorilla dung

Looks a complete piece of shit. The original is pretty great until the ending which I think sort of ruins it with its happy ending. But this looks like garbage.

This movie looks like what comes out of my ass the morning after a 12 pack and a 3 am Taco Bell run.

A horror movie. Opening in September. I'm sure it's a winner.

I can imagine the CW crowd, which looks like this is catered to, they'll think this is something original.

I'm 37. I've heard of the original, seen the original, and remember it being pretty popular when it was first released.
I'll watch this new version when it hits Netflix or HBO. It doesn't even look good enough to rent. Although despite her seemingly universal hate, I really like Ellen Page.

The original was popular at the time because Julia Roberts had just hit it big with Pretty Woman and was box office gold. Plus, she and Kiefer Sutherland as a couple were all over the tabloids. Still, I did enjoy the original because I like some visual stuff Joel Schumacher did...but this new one, I'm not too sold on it. I'll still see it, but it doesn't look all that great.

Opens this week.
I don't know why anyone would want to see this.

I never saw the original, this looks like it could be entertaining (though zero reviews on release day is telling.)
Basically The OA + Final Destination with Nina Dobrev and Ellen Page, from the director of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I'm sure I've seen worse this year.

This was the basic idea of an "average movie". It wasn't great, but it wasn't as awful as it could have been, like Friend Request. There was actually a truly shocking part in the movie. What's missing is Schumaker's colorful style. I don't understand why Nina Dobrev keeps getting roles because she's the definition of wooden, but I think Ellen Page was pretty good. I don't think this type of movie bodes well for her future career, though. Still, nothing too offensive in this one. Run of the mill stuff with one surprise.
The only thing I didn't understand was why Kiefer Sutherland agreed to do this because he's playing a different character who really could've been Nelson from the original if they had just used that name. He's a doctor, so why they had to bash us over the head with it as a remake rather than a reboot is lost on me. It really could have been a sequel.

I did not like this at all. Such a dumb remake. This was obviously designed for the millennial/CW generation.
It started out sort of promising with the 5 Med students playing around with the Flatlining and then these dark visions starting popping up.
But it quickly went downhill when the characters figured out:
I was hoping this would have a Final Destination type spin to it.
and
and there was absolutely no point for Kiefer Sutherland to be in this. He wasn't even playing the same character he played in the original. Just some random doctor in their Med school. Plus, he was wearing an awful looking wig. It was such a ham-fisted cameo.
If you were a fan of the original, skip this. I'd give this a D
Saw this with Movie Pass, so it took out some of the sting for paying to see this.
