Casey Affleck - "The Assassination of Jesse James" vs "Gone Baby Gone"

I'm doubly impressed with these two films featuring Casey Affleck. I would say that these two films put him in a leading position, as opposed to his supporting roles in Ocean's Eleven and its sequels. Yes, he was a lead in other (independent) films, but none of them really match what he accomplished with these two films from 2007.

What a stellar year for this young man. But which of the two did you feel was the best performance? I'd be hard-pressed to pick just one. Apparently, the Academy Awards people were able to, and they picked The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford, an Oscar-nomination for young Affleck (in a supporting role, but we all know it was pretty much a lead).

I prefer his performance in Jesse James... You mention that he's been in other independent films, I'd call out his performance in The Killer Inside Me from earlier this year -- his performance in that ranks along side these two, imo.

Even with as good as he was in Gone Baby Gone, his performance in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford stands head and shoulders above everything else he's done.

That anxious look he had after Jesse James saw the article in the newspaper (about the confession) - when he goes into the other room and sits in the chair. That look on Casey's face is priceless. (this is before Bob Ford shoots Jesse in the back - sorry for the spoiler.)

I thought he was quite good in The Killer Inside Me as well. He was good in Gone Baby Gone but honestly didn't have to do that much in it, The Killer Inside Me he had to actually be a quiet sociopath.

Haven't seen Jesse James yet.

haven't seen The Killer Inside Me - if you guys recommend it, i'll check it out. I"m sure he's done more movies since 2007...I'm way behind.
