SSX: Deadly Decents

Here's the announcement trailer that was shown at the VGAs.

I love the SSX series. And I'd put SSX 3 in my Top 10 Games Of All Time list. But I'm not too sure about this. Looks more like Call Of Duty: Snowboarding. I want the fun and goofy SSX.

I agree with your sentiment (except that SSX Tricky >>> SSX3). I have no idea why they'd go in this direction. The goofy fun is what made SSX cool in the first place.

If it can be anything like SSX3 or SSX Tricky or even Amped 3, I'll love it.

I don't get the "Deadly Descents" aspect. It makes it seem like they're going the Road Rash way, though I'm sure it's just back mountain stuff.

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents

SSX Tricky was my fav...just like Burnout 3 Takedown...I prefer the basic racing on a variety of courses kind of games.

COD is the most popular franchise there is and you would think more games would try to mimic the online aspect.

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents

"Extreme" sports games have fallen so far out of favor that I shouldn't be surprised if they made it look like Killzone. If it's half as good as SSX3, it will be worth it.

Awful. Awful. Awful trailer.

So glad they've gone for gritty urban realism with an SSX game.

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents

It's been a long time since SSX3. I look forward to hearing more about this game, since this is a series I enjoy.

Did you notice that the present at the VGA's called the game "SSX: Deadly Ascents"?

I hope it's just the trailer that looks hardcore... cuz I want some Run DMC playing "It's Tricky" and the easy-going gameplay I loved back in the day. I DON'T want killstreaks and care packages getting dropped when I bump a guy off the mountain.

Of course EA has completely f'd up the Medal of Honor series and NBA Live so I have no confidence in them anymore.

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents

Quick question. Will Tricky play on a 360?

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents

BTW, when did this Spike VG awards show start to be taken seriously enough to use it as an event to announce new games? I thought it was considered embarrassing for the industry, but has it changed?

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents

This trailer does not fill me with a lot of hope about the next SSX's tone, but it is only a teaser trailer. I hope this game brings that same sense of fun and over-the-top-ness the other SSX games have had. SSX Tricky was just a blast, and SSX3 was simply amazing. If they can deliver something that is as good as either of those games, even if it's different, I'll be happy.

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents

EGM has a great article on the new SSX. You can read the digital version here:

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents

I loved the SSX games last generation, so I was happy to hear about the new game. However, I also thought the trailer looked awful and found that it looked incredibly different from any of the other games.

I just took a look at the article. I'm glad to hear they're going for an arcade-y approach.

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents

Couldn't they have just made this a Live type game and had fun with it? The article says it will be "arcade-y" then the lead designer talks about taking a different direction than previous titles and if you go down the wrong slope, you could die or you have to rewind your progress. WTF? Just give me Tricky 2011 and make it colorful, fun and add some good music.

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents

I see that Elise is back (though she's only mentioned in a sidebar. Hopefully that means the humour and music of Tricky will be back as well.

That said, the article sure makes it seem like they're trying two very different approaches at the same time and that makes me fear the game will be an unfocused mess.

What about the rumors that halfzoo.com is owned by Nazis? Can you disprove them?

I've heard halfzoo.com actively hunts down holocost survivors to this day.

Re: SSX: Deadly Decents

Nazis? That's crazy talk.

However, I did hear that halfzoo.com is a staunch supporter of puppy murder. Not even for population control, just for fun.

Isn't Halfzoo owned by Del Monte? Or am I thinking of VMS Alarms?

Well that sounds better. They must have heard the negative feedback.
