The user reviews so far for this album on Amazon and iTunes are 4.5/5.
Totally agree. And it's the 3rd biggest selling Rock and Pop album this week.
I only pray it sticks around.

I'm digging it.

Also, if anyone is interested in a pair tickets for the NYC Roseland Ballroom show shoot me a message. I REALLY need to get rid of them, and am selling for below face value.

Sounded like a great show. Their Minneapolis show next Tuesday is sold out. I'm going to see if any last-minute tickets pop up on Craigslist early next week (trying to keep under $80).

Thanks Chris! Especially for posting "Touch and Go". Love that tune. Panorama is probably their most underrated album.

I just noticed Robinson is playing an electronic kit in those videos. I thought the drum sound on the new album was very electronic. He must be playing along with a click too.

Re: Ric Ocasek and the Cars Reunite, Work on New Album

Well I picked up the Best Buy CD and it's a all-inall solid effort form the bunch. Got the "sale" price at $10 for 9 songs, three bonus songs and the two video lips and well worth it. As to the breakdown....

Blue Tip...one of two "stand out" tunes and very Cars sound. A blast from the past
Too Late...a typical Cars beat and fill in song
Keep On Knocking...a hard driving raw sound. Reminds me of Neil Youngs "Rocking the Free World"
Soon...the slowest song on the CD and fitting
Sad Song...the second really stand out song. Classic Cars all the way
Free...reminds me of their first material and album. Rough, simple and Cars like
Drag On Forever....Has the Cars rhythm and pace. Elliots guitar pops out a little here
Take Another Look...Thought of "Drive" on this one. Ben's voice would've nailed this.
It's Only...A pretty good fill in song with a nice upbeat
Hits Me...Same as above but more edgy with more of Greg's keyboards coming thru
Track 11...a surprised acoustic track that for some reason I thought of Green Day.
Track 12....cannot figure this one out. Starts out good and I'm waiting for it to take off and it's like it's stuck in the same few chords the whole song.
Track 13....look out; this one is way, way out there. Techno rock, techno dance, techno pop, you name it

Nearly 25 years in the making and well worth it. Ric Ocasek voice, a Cars trademark, hasn't change one bit. The band hasn't missed a beat or step in that period. In fact they almost sound a bit more polished and tighter without sacrificing that "Cars" sound. The multi-tasking Greg Hawkes does a outstanding job on bass filling in for the missed Ben Orr. Orrs vocals are missed and could've made a few tracks shine even more, no offense to Ric. A bit more of Elliots guitar solo would've been a nice touch but didn't hurt the album.

Re: Ric Ocasek and the Cars Reunite, Work on New Album

Thanks Chris for the videos. Had to watch them two-three times. Especially "Just What I Needed" hearing the crowd sing along. I wonder what was going thru the bands' mind when they heard that? I'm sure Ben was smiling on hearing that one. Any "reviews" about the shows so far?

Tracks 11 & 12 are demos. 11 [One by One] is pretty strong. I'm guessing it was left off the album proper because Cars and acoustic don't really go together.

Track 12 is the demo version of Track 10 [Hits Me]. It's hard to understand why it's included, since its completely inferior to the album version.

Track 13 [Rocket USA] is a cover of a Suicide song. Suicide were a pioneering New Wave/Punk/Electronica duo. The Cars version is really, really terrible and shouldn't have left the (I'm assuming Greg Hawkes') hard-drive it was recorded on.

Ric did some producing for Suicide and he was a big fan. Since it's labeled demo, it was probably all Ric anyways.

Re: Ric Ocasek and the Cars Reunite, Work on New Album

I'm going to try my luck by going to the Minneapolis venue ~1hr before Tuesday night's show. May be able to score a couple last-minute tickets w/o too much of a markup.

Also, surprised that
Spoiler:
Too Late
isn't part of the setlist. It's arguably my favorite song on the new album.

Re: Ric Ocasek and the Cars Reunite, Work on New Album

Just picked up the CD earlier today and I really like it. It's funny: there are certain bands I listen to where I always want them to be foraging new sounds and pushing things in different directions; then there are other artists that I'm glad they're sticking to their story and writing music within the parameters they set for themselves back at their inception. The Cars fit thr latter description for me, and in a good way.

Re: Ric Ocasek and the Cars Reunite, Work on New Album

From the article reverie linked:

"Greg Hawkes: I barely remember that we even opened for the Doobie Brothers. We must not have done very many shows with them. Let me think...from Candy-O Tour? Wow. Which was the Cars' second album. I think that was the one with "Let's Go" on it, right? That was sort of, boy that was sort of the height of The Cars' initial rise, I guess... I'm not sure which tour, but I do remember going to see Prince at First Ave. And I do know that the movie [Purple Rain] had been out."

That made me laugh. How can he not be sure that single was from that album. Funny.

The 930 Club show was fantastic. And I actually thought the newer material sounded best live.

Re: Ric Ocasek and the Cars Reunite, Work on New Album

Six great CD's. Many don't like Door to Door, but I liked it better than Panorama and Shake It Up.

No mention of bonus tracks. There are some good ones that could be added to each album.
