Re: New Berserk Anime Project Launching

I just can't get myself excited for these movies. Anytime I see something released about them, whether it be a trailer or a news article, I keep thinking "been there, done that." Even though I still like the manga, my enthusiasm for Berserk (along with my enthusiasm for anime in general) has faded over the last two years or so what with the glacial pace at which the story has progressed over the last couple years and the sporadic release schedule the manga chapters have. I also have to admit I really don't care for the art direction the movies have taken. Even though the TV series came out 15 years ago, I think the art in it looked better than what I've seen in the movie trailers. The art style in the series, while admittedly low-budget, at least was consistent with how the manga looked. Judging from that trailer, the art style in the movies, IMO, goes from decent to video game cut-scene. I'll definitely rent them when they show up on Netflix, but I don't know if I would buy them at this point.

Re: New Berserk Anime Project Launching

The fact that these movies are so poorly done and are getting terrible reviews really breaks my heart as a huge Berserk fan. I SOOOOO wanted them to bring out a new TV series, continuing where the original left off and giving us all the details of what happened to the characters at the end of the OG series. Was that asking for too much? Instead we get these crappy movies with horrible CGI. Very depressing

I was not aware they were getting bad reviews (I haven't been paying attention to any reviews for them). I think I'll wait until a review shows up on this site before I decide whether to watch them or not. I may just skip them altogether.

If you can get past the horrid CGI (and I mean HORRID), these movies aren't THAT bad.

Good trailer. Cheesy narrator though. I'm still excited. Cheesy CGI in anime doesn't bug me that much.

Finally got mine! - Loved the fluid animation!

As for the pacing - its fast ( I guess, given that I saw and have knowledge about the former anime series).

Still loved it though!

WARNING: Dont Expect Special Features its only the NeonAlley.com Trailer

In comparison with the former series - the CGI/Animation combination is Excellent

What I love about this series - The Blood and Gore were done fluidly BRUTAL

Re: New Berserk Anime Project Launching

I enjoyed this - it felt like a concise version of the series. Guts is a bit more blunt about the sexual tension from the creepy "you're mine!" attitude that Griffith has for him - funny.

Gut's sword seemed to vary in length sometimes...animation was sloppy here and there with the perspective or something.

Didn't have any huge complaints about the CG.

I think the series is better (more character time for everybody) but I didn't feel like a whole lot was being lost, either.

And all 3 Blu-Rays are $9.96 each on Amazon right now, though they are all out of stock. I haven't noticed them that low before.

About time; I've been waiting for Netflix to get this. I've gone through the Golden Age storyline a couple times already, so I held off buying these at their previous prices, although I considered it a couple times. At $10 each, I may just buy them. Have there been any hints as to when more movies will be released? I'm assuming they're still planning on adapting the rest of the manga.

Re: New Berserk Anime Project Launching

So are we finally moving forward from the plot in the series/movies?

And to save everybody some time, the 3rd movie is totally worth checking out. The other 2? IMO, if you saw the series, skip them.

I never bothered to watch 2 & 3 after watching the 1st one. Figured they were just a gloss over/rehash of the series like the 1st one was.

1 and 2 are abbreviated versions of the series, the 3rd one is a 2 hour movie version of the last few episodes that actually expands on what's happening -- and since those were my favorite episodes to begin with, it was actually a pretty interesting watch. I could have easily done without #1 or #2 though.
