Shelves were made different sizes to accommodate different sizes of media.

1st shelf had 4 DVD shelves and 6 BR shelves
2nd shelf had 7 DVD shelves and 3 BR shelves
3rd shelf had 10 DVD shelves

Thought about making them all DVD size but then several larger box sets would be undisplayable.

Those shelves look great SterlingBen, though I must question putting Schindler's List between Ernest P. Worrell and Showgirls

All my shelves (Well the ones on the walls) were all hand built. I always say that's the best way to go. It's not very expensive and you can customize them to fit your space exactly. Also great job on adding supports to the back. You would be surprised how often I see people forget to do that. GREAT JOB!

It's so cool to have your own video store in your home to just walk around and browse in.

Re: Post pics of your DVD collection and HT, Part 13

Updated pics of my collection (947, counting TV seasons as 1)...

A to L

L to S

S to Z

My TV room:

Sorry about the glare. My A to L and L to S bookcases are in a dimly lit room and the camera flash doesn't do them any justice. A few of my paperbacks on the bottom of S to Z...

OK, we painted the room and changed out the furniture so I took the opportunity to take some pics.

Oh, you want to see the insides

Not as expansive as most of the others, but this is my collection. I'm trying to get all of the movies ever listed in the 1001 Movies book.

This represents around 75 precent of my collection and zero organization (yet). Big shelves cost 38ish dollars the small shelf 25 or so.

Basic materials that I used for to make the shelves (this is just for the first shelf)

Finished Shelf 1

Mounted Shelf 1

Add Media

Add Second Shelf

Add Media

Add Third Shelf

Add Media

Still several more things to build in this room but I am glad I finally got started on this after procrastinating on it for almost 4 years since we bought this house.
Added another wall shelf

Mostly For VHS

And built a free standing shelf for overflow

Picked up this for the movie room but it turned out to be a bit larger than originally anticipated, after assembly.

Re: Post pics of your DVD collection and HT, Part 13

A little background before I post big ole pictures.

For roughly twenty years, I've always wanted a "movie room". In my 20's, I didn't have enough money. In my 30's, I was bouncing between two separate divorces and on the verge of multiple emotional breakdowns. That and the house I lived in for 10 years did me zero favors in that regard. Enter my late 30's, early 40's...I found somebody I actually love (it's a hard concept to explain) and an actual kid who I love dearly. About two years ago now, I moved to a two story house. I could decorate the upstairs however I pleased. The upstairs was essentially a big game room and a back bedroom (and bathroom...my wife eventually took the bathroom for our son to bathe and decorate how she wants, but no worries). Of course, I decided to do a movie room that really flowed into the back bedroom. Well after two years, I'm not sure I'm done, but I like it well enough we can call it "stable".

So here we go. I post pictures here because most of my so-called friends on Facebook were once like me with overgrown movie collections and now most of them are "minimalists" who are oh so bloody proud of themselves. So it does zero good to post there. Here at least some of you might take interest in it. Plus, it took me 20 years to get to this point, and it makes me happy. I mean obviously so does my wife and kid (or none of this probably wouldn't exist), but for once...I'm good.

Now, pics!

At the top of the staircase you are greeted by a couple of vintage movie reels (50-60 years old), an Escape from New York mini-poster signed by John Carpenter, Dean Cundey & Alan Howarth, and a The Thing poster.

Spoiler:

Coming into the movie room, here is the Television (LG 55" 4k)...I tried it mounted, I honestly am not in love with it...so I keep it on a stand. Anyway, 4k player, Polk speakers, Evil Dead, Army of Darkness posters and 1 of my 3 spinners. Above the mount, that's a shadow box with my Evil Dead 2 tin, and Wicker Man wooden box inside.

Spoiler:

The right side of the room, another of my bookcases, a place for my dvd television related items, and a couple more neat things like a Road Games poster and the soundtracks to Psycho and Repo Man on Vinyl.

Spoiler:

...continued next message.

Re: Post pics of your DVD collection and HT, Part 13

The right side is also home to another spinner (2/3) which among other things has my 4k's and steelbooks (many of the steelbooks also has 4ks since I would rather re-use them than a boring black case).
Spoiler:

And my Criterions, Twilight Times and Blu-Ray boxsets.
Spoiler:

The ole couch and my third spinner (3/3) which has my video games from various generations).
Spoiler:

Finally for the movie room we get the left side with a Resident Evil poster, bookcase, and a couple more vinlys (Close Encounters, Forbidden Planet).
Spoiler:

Now onto the Back bedroom - Right-side bookcase, a couple more vinyls (Meat Loaf, Ozzy), a Forbidden Planet Vinyl clock, and more.

Spoiler:

And finally the left side - one last bookcase and my Evil Dead II UK Sized poster. That's all she wrote (we'll ignore the closet which is home to everything I'm trying to sell, misc video games and my cds), hope you folks enjoyed it.

Spoiler:

I've finally resolved that I'll never have anything as nice as the pictures displayed here, but I enjoy seeing what others have done.
