Re: The Ultimate Pinball Thread

Add me on 360 (SmarmyJerkface) if I'm not there already. Lit up the leaderboards last night, and I need new chumps to defeat.

Also, did anyone else notice the acheivement #s creeping up over the last couple weeks? I swore when I bought the game it was 400, then it was at 500, now it's up to 650.

Re: The Ultimate Pinball Thread

Mine was always 650 too. 50 for each table, a 5, a 15, and a 30. So it probably was the trials, since I already had the tables from the first game.

Re: The Ultimate Pinball Thread

The problem with most of those licensed games is they have to license the pinball from the parent company and the theme from the copyright holder.

Gah, I got my high score on Excalibur today, and then on the third ball I got to the catapult for the first time, I though there was a mini-game starting, so was staring at the wrong part of the screen as my ball shot back into play and rolled out.

Thats a billion point table if you can be patient. I'm up to 307 mil on it right now. Its a 70s to early 80s style table and my favorite on Pinball FX. I don't like most of Zen's tables because they are just to crammed full of garbage, but they did a great job on that one.

I'm glad you made that comment as I was going to ask if that 517 million score was a glitch. No one on my friend's list is even near that. I don't remember what score I had before they reset the leaderboards but I don't think it was anywhere near that much.

How long of a game did it take you to get the 300 million? Is there some kind of trick or special move you have to get that high?

It's all about getting your ramp score up. If you hit the same ramp twice within a certain amount of time, its either 15 or 20 seconds you get the ramp score for that ramp. It starts out at 500k and goes up 500k each time. It also helps that the right ramp drops right into the K in CAKE, which makes it one of the easier ones to get a save on too, since if you have the ball caught on the left flipper, just go through with the right flipper til the E isn't lit, you'll light it in the K lane.

Re: The Ultimate Pinball Thread

I'd guess about a half hour, taking my time with catches and stuff like that. I wish they would add in the crazy amount of stats in the old tables that they put into the new ones. If you pause on the new ones there's an insane amount of stats, down to how many times you've used each flipper.

Hey brian, do you know what happened to Buccaneer? Why are the scores for that table SO much lower than they used to be on Pinball FX? Did they change the scoring system?

Re: The Ultimate Pinball Thread

I'm getting better at Excalibur, but it's hard to string together a lot of the challenges. I still haven't gotten more than 2 hits on the knight in the battle at the top. And I have a really hard time getting the ball into that the lock.

No idea. I haven't had any time to spend with it yet since the revision. It seemed liked they lowered the scoring on a few of the old tables at first glance. I kind of like lower scoring tables anyway. It just seems crazy to hit numbers in the hundreds of millions. I remember a friend's Dad in high school had an old early 70's table and it score about a point a hit. You had an awesome game if you hit 5000 points.

Re: The Ultimate Pinball Thread

Somewhere I read there appears to be issues with the bonus from bumpers on the left side of the screen in Buccaneer. I don't remember where I saw that though, it wasn't anything official or anything like that, and I haven't had a chance to check it out myself. There's just something I'm not liking about Buccaneer in FX2 and its funny because it was probably the table I played most in the original.

This was already answered, but yes its about working the combos on the ramps hard. You can get quite a rhythm going and rack up millions in a hurry. This is also an easy table to keep the ball save activating over and over and that can bail you out on a screw up. I find I can really focus on this one since it has less stuff on the table and it has really good shooting lanes. Many of the FX tables have awkward shooting lanes and that makes it tough to put together a good run. 70s and 80s style tables are what I grew up one and what I'm good at here and on Pinball Hall of fame. My skills are seriously lacking on the fancy 90s style tables. Just too much going on and too complicated objectives.

Also, I highly recommend turning off those sparks and score pop ups. Those are just as distracting as they were in the PS3 version and make your job a lot harder.

BTW, I'm also struggling with Buccaneer so I think there is something different about the scoring in this version.

Just curious, what view does everyone use in FX2?

I usually go with view 4

I can never decide between 4 an 6. I have an SD TV though. I don't know if that makes a difference.

Re: The Ultimate Pinball Thread

Just last night I discovered there were different views. I accidentally hit a button and was suddenly zoomed in super close. I need to check the various views to see which I prefer. In general I like the camera pulled back a god bit although one of the tables seems really busy and tougher to pick out the ball.

Re: The Ultimate Pinball Thread

I use usually either View 3 or View 4. I could swear on some tables the views aren't consistent. Maybe it just depends on the table layout, but sometimes View 3 is just way too zoomed in.
