Comcast HD-DVR: Worst Remote Ever
So I just got Comcast after having Dish for many, many years. I loved Dish but the prices were ridiculous and I couldn't pass up the package Comcast offered.
Anyways, the DVR remote sucks - plain and simple. I was wondering if anyone recommends another type of remote (logitech preferred) that can actually be used without having to point the remote DIRECTLY at the cable box? Since my bed sits so high and the box is low relative to it, I literally have to raise my arm to full extent to change a channel or fast forward/rewind. Any ideas?
Thanks.

With regards to a universal remote, try the Logitech Harmony 890. This remote is the same as teh 880 but it includes an IR extender. The remote uses RF to transmit the signal to the IR extender, then to your components. That way, you don't even have to be in the same vicinity as your components and you can still control them.
I have one for my theater room in the basement because all of my components are in a different room than my projector. The only time it is a pain is when I have to change the DVD or BluRay disc!

The problem could be with the sensor on the box rather than the remote. It's hard to tell.
I signed up with Comcast in July and the first HD DVR they gave me was an older model that sucked (it didn't even have HDMI output). The remote was as you described. After two months the thing died and I got a brand new model that works much better.

MX-500 remote is probably powerful enough to not need a Hotlink or RF or anything else.

You do know that the package deal is temporary, right? And I don't know about your area, but Comcast's DVR fees are more expensive here than either Dish or Direct.
PS - I had a Logitech 880 I was using for my basement theater room and programmed it with the Comcast gear -- no issues at all. It works perfectly. Now I need to shell out another $115+ for an additional remote.
