Which I find interesting since I thought enough gamers preferred digital copies (downloading games) now just like many movie lovers. All the gamer fiends I have are download only now. They think it's funny that I buy the occasional game disc when they reach the clearance price stage.

It's about demographics for what Costco carries. I think Costco wants to still lure in younger shoppers with videogame deals. Movies on DVD are virtually dead to anyone under the age of 30.

am waiting for that millennial kid to launch a startup in year 2025 that sells something called Blurays - because there's a large demand with a middle-aged population. And of course, Silicon Valley will bless him/her with a billion dollar series 1 and 2.

True, but it was true 5 years ago.

I don't think they are selling games for the gamers ... they are selling them for the money ms, dadas, grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles, etc. They are going after the gift giving crowd. I doubt many gamers (kids or hardcore) shop at Costco.

Isn't the gaming market bigger than books and movies now?

At two Costcos near me the only movie they have is Wonder Woman. in blu ray and 4K. That is it. Lots of copies but only one title.

Might as well strip this thread of its 'sticky' status and bury it. My local SoCal Costco now carries a whopping five Disney titles for media !

Agreed. But not juts because they don;t carry many titles (which could always change again short term) but because they are rarely good deals anymore when they do carry anything.

Agreed. But video titles have not been a promotional item for them for years now. Nothing new.

Yep, agreed. Unsticky this one and sticky Target and/or the Non US Amazon one (or just change it to International Deals which it already kinda is).

I can't remember the last time Costco had a Blu-ray deal worth mentioning. I guess it was when they carried the Studio Ghibli BDs from Disney for decent prices.

My (well, my parents...no longer live there) Pacoima Costco is down to a largish cardboard endcap with Minions and maybe another title or two...redefining desolate. In a matter of months they have massively downsized their once upon a time pretty decent selection of Home video...picking up Home video at Costco, not a thing anymore.

Costco didn't even bother bringing in media items for the Christmas shopping season. I think it's safe to say the company has gotten out of the media retailing business.

Unless the store near me was the exception, they definitely did bring in a few more titles for the Holidays. No where near what they used to have, but far more than they had back in October. That includes having a bunch of 4K titles.

Your Costco sounds like it is the exception not the rule when it comes to Home media. I still have my sealed 3D Wizard Of Oz Blu Ray Lmited Edition Box Set from several years back that they had for a great price, those were the days.

I went to the local Costco about 2 weeks ago. Only films were children's (mostly Disney & pricey). No music, though TONS of books. I didn't think books were still having high sales with the e-readers.

At least one of the Costcos in Phoenix also had more titles for the holidays. Not as much as even 2016, but more than usual.

I'm surprised the books still get as much space as they do. We have purchased some children's book there when it's a great deal, but never adult books.

I talked to some friends at Costco HQ and they confirmed that some stores carry far more movies than others. Which explains a lot of the disagreement there has been in here about what Costco carries or not. Not that it matters much, because it's rare anything is an actual "deal" there anymore. The Criterion new releases they carried off and on were the last movies I've purchased there.

A new beginning at one of my SoCal Costco stores - completely done away with media. Just toys and books in its place

Re: Costco discounts and deals on Blu-ray

I noticed on our most recent trip, that for the first time ever, they had zero BD or DVD's. Not even a display with a recent new release. Maybe that will change with Coco coming out soon.
