Usually when they do a complete series set, the discs are single sided....if the discs were flippers originally. The A-Team set is like that.

If your packages are unopened you might check to see if the UPC on the older sets match the ones on the newer ones. Many of them do. And you can do what you want with that.

Is there any chance of persuading some of these studios to sell us the new slim packaging to shows we already own? I'd love to get the new slim cases for the first 4 seasons of 24 that were digipak crap, Stargate SG1, and many others. Hell, I haven't even had any luck finding replacement cases like that. I might be inclined to look for cover art to print if I could.

Just picked up the last 3 Cheers volumes and those were the slimmer cases...Doesn't really bother me that much, of course I would have preferred them all to look alike but I'll live.

Just curious, but why?

Personally, I like the new packaging and wish they had done that all along, rather than change the packaging mid-release for some shows.

Not to mention if they ever do release another King Of The Hill set (and that's a BIG if) it will undoubtedly be in the Viva Packaging and thus will be inconsistent with the original releases.

Entourage. I really don't mind either way the seasons are, but they could at least be the same. I would have really liked them to be in the slim cases like Family Guy (the first 6 seasons/volumes)

You have a good point there if they do release more king of the hill dvds they will be the viva packaging, however I just kinda like the big box look if that makes sence lol.

I have owned seasons three and four of King of the Hill for some time now. Amazon recently had some pretty good deals on all the KotH seasons, so I went ahead and picked up the other seasons I did not own (1,2,5,6). Seasons five and six came in the new, slim plastic cases while the first and second seasons came in the original cardboard packaging. I am not a fan of the new packaging. It just looks cheap and unimpressive to me. The original cardboard packaging with the thinpaks is more eye-catching in my opinion. I immediately contacted Amazon and requested replacement sets with the original cardboard packaging. They tell me to expect them next week.

Re: What's the deal with studios changing packaging on TV shows?

I personally would LOVE to replace all my shelf-hogging sets with the newer slimmer cases. I have the original cases of:

24 S1-6
Dark Angel S1-2
Fururama 1-4
Arrested Development 1-3
Family Guy 1-6

I wonder if there is a way to obtain the thinner replacement cases/packaging from FOX.

Nice! I've been putting off buying Friends because I knew they would eventually release space-saving versions.

Where did you find this new size of "FRIENDS"? It is not showing up on Amazon.com.

I've seen Targets and Walmarts starting to get these over the past month or so in as current inventories dwindle.

wbshop.com carries (or at least appears to carry) them separate from the original releases.

I hate the slimmer packaging. I noticed South Park is the latest "victim." I hope 14 is released with the larger so I can keep the series consistant.

Edit: Just saw this posted in the fox thread... I didn't look there because its a Paramount title...
