Apparently it played on TCM earlier this year preceded by the Criterion/Janus logo.
I swear that I thought that was a drawing of James Caan.

David Byrne's True Stories is coming.

Q: You’ve worked with a wide array of artists and filmmakers. If you’ll indulge a speed round on some of them here, just to get your recollections of those collaborations — let’s start with David Byrne (1986’s “True Stories”).

A: Wow. Here we go. The interesting thing is I just re-authorized “True Stories” for Criterion.

Wow. I don't think this was ever released in OAR.

I wonder what version will it be. Like is it an HD version of their laserdisc release? Is it a new version? I would hope it's not a censored release in any shape or form.

Alexander Payne's Election will be coming to the Collection.

At the 0:43 mark:

Criterion's making me repeat myself often... the current release of Election looks fine and is dirt cheap.

Really wish they would tackle titles that either aren't on BD or whose quality is poor.

Tom Jones will be a worth upgrade from the OOP DVD. It's one of the few Best Picture winners available only on DVD. Glad to see that number drop by one.

How awesome would it be if they fixed Universal's mistake and rerelease Conan The Barbarian? Now that's a title that needs redo.

Wish Criterion could release Dead Presidents on BD. Outside of a barebones VUDU/PRIME release there is no BD anywhere. I may have to pay the $17.99 and get the HDX version from VUDU -- here's hoping that it's in the correct OAR.

Dead Presidents seems like a title thats way out of Criterion's wheelhouse.

However, It would be a great Shout Select title.

I've been meaning to ask and this seems a good opportunity, -Is HDX some variation on 4K?

Most VUDU titles have a free 2-minute preview that should give you enough time to check the aspect ratio and general picture quality.

HDX is VUDU's designation for 1080p streaming. This is distinguished from "HD," which is 720p.

That would be great since they were the only ones to ever release the uncut version and extras.

I used to own Dead Presidents CC LD back in the day. It was a phenomenal package.

I still own it, -I think. I just can't play it. I had forgotten it was a Criterion, but it was a great set.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

* So I did a little experiment and saw that Amazon has the film (Dead Presidents) in "HD" and can be watched with a Cinemaz subscription (free 7-day trial), so I signed up for the trial and the HD feed is garbage -- and it's in non-anamorphic 2.35:1. I guess that's my answer -- unless VUDU somehow gets a different source than what Amazon gets I am stuck until it gets a proper BD release.
