Surprised this is still going on. They made no mention of it during their 1st quarter conference call back in May if I remember correctly.

If i'm ever in NJ with some time to spare I might check out the Paramus location. I would like to pick up some albums.

i guess this promo started on the east and might be moving westward. or maybe we on the west have a different $9.99 promotion? my local fye recently started doing $9.99 new dvds, but they are the same ones selling on amazon for $5 or so routinely

For me $9.99 is the sweet spot for CD purchases. If this promotion makes it over to the West Coast I will take full advantage of it.

Re: FYE Test Stores - all CDs $9.99 each!

I just passed one of these stores here in MI yesterday! I was in a hurry, and looking for another place, but I think it was somewhere around the Woodward & 14 Mile area. It looked like it was on the corner unit in a strip of store-fronts. Maybe today or Friday I'll go looking for it again.

So these are separate from the regular FYE stores?

Let me know exactly where this one is please. Its not that far from me here.

EDIT: Looks like Woodward between 11 & 12 Mile.

Thanks for looking it up.. I just would have went driving. On the outside of the building there's a bunch of signage stating that all CDs are $9.99.

The FYE in the Fox Run Mall in Portsmouth, NH is now an all 9.99 store.

I wonder if the Oakland Mall store is doing this.

Re: FYE Test Stores - all CDs $9.99 each!

I stopped in the Woodward one yesterday. It was odd seeing all the $10 CDs next to the regular FYE prices of 2 disc sets (mostly around $30). It seemed like a better FYE than most though, they had a vinyl section and what seemed like a larger selection of music than most others.

I really hope they start doing this in Texas, Washington and/or Montana, as those are the states I can personally visit the easiest.

As someone else mentioned, $9.99 for CDs is a great price point.

I think I'll go there during lunch. I doubt the Oakland store, which is closer, is doing this. I didn't see any indication of it two weeks ago when I was there last.

So its basically ANY single-disk CD release?

Re: FYE Test Stores - all CDs $9.99 each!

Just got back from there. Found 1 CD I wanted. It is the only store doing this in Michigan right now, but the guy there said there should be more in November, including Oakland Mall.

As far as FYE's go, it wasn't a bad store.. what'd you think?

Re: FYE Test Stores - all CDs $9.99 each!

Just found out today the FYE in Stamford, CT will be starting the program also. Not sure if it's because it's a mall store (higher rent) but they will be doing $9.99 and $12.99 CDs. They had their employees stickering everything as I was there, and tons of $9.99 signs were up.

According to a manager there, the store in Port Chester, NY is all $9.99, but I haven't confirmed this yet.

Re: FYE Test Stores - all CDs $9.99 each!

I wonder if the promotion has made it down to Florida yet...will have to give my FYE a call and find out. If they can pull this off and charge $9.99 on new releases and older catalog titles, I will definitely renew my Backstage Pass and spend an entire day rifling through the CD Section; there are so many older titles that I want, but am not willing to pay $15-$18 for, but would definitely drop $9.99 on. And I'll probably do all my CD shopping there until other stores follow suit (unless there is a store exclusive bonus disc, tracks, etc.)

Re: FYE Test Stores - all CDs $9.99 each!

The Sacramento store at Arden Fair Mall is now doing this- someone there said the Transformers II soundtrack was still full-price because the label demanded it, also saw the new Beatles CDs stickered at $13.99 so they must be counting those as "special editions" which are exempt. I bought 4 CDs just to show my support- there was some more stuff I would have bought had it been in stock, I'm assuming (perhaps wrongly, but what's a little optimism?) they'd already sold out of them.

I tried to find out if they're selling these at a loss, but nobody there knew for sure. When I worked for Tower their wholesale cost for most CDs was about $11, but with so many record stores out of business maybe the record labels are finally pulling their heads out of their asses and realizing that they're just going to have to lower their prices if they want people to keep buying CDs.

This is definitely a good start- catalog albums should be priced even lower though. If they can sell a movie that came out within the last 5 years on DVD for $5 or so, they should be able to do the same with albums that are about that old.

Is this still going on at the stores that were doing it? It never did reach the store at Oakland Mall like they told me it would.

It was in Sacramento a couple weeks ago- if they stop doing this, I'll expect them to be going out of business soon afterwards.

Yes, they buy CDs, DVDs, Blu-Rays and Video Games from people. They give you the option of taking your payment in cash or store credit. If you choose store credit, you get 25% more, which I think is a great deal since I am constantly shopping and trading things in there.

Re: FYE Test Stores - all CDs $9.99 each!

FYE seems like a company on the verge of bankruptcy.

They just closed the CD World store in Totowa, NJ. They are in the process of closing the Wayne FYE in the Preakness Mall. They are running "test" stores in different locations (ie. the 9.99 cd stores, and now the Willowbrook Mall location does not sell used product of any kind) and I was just told at the Rt 4 store in Paramus that they will not buy back any used product, not even for store credit.

I don't expect them to be around much longer.

Re: FYE Test Stores - all CDs $9.99 each!

They are closing I believe 125 stores after the holiday season.

Honestly they have been a dying company for many years. I saw the writing on the wall back in 2005 when I managed one, but I can't imagine what it's like working for them now.

I give them credit though, they are putting up a big fight to the end.

Re: FYE Test Stores - all CDs $9.99 each!

The FYE at Emerald Square Mall in North Attleboro, MA had banners up everywhere touting this promotion. I wound up picking up a few cds. I'd definitely continue to do so if they keep running this promo.

So mad, went over to the FYE in Preakness Shopping Center in Wayne, NJ with a big bag a dvds to trade in and saw the going out of business sign. I guess I have to try Ebay.
