That original Immortal video was one of the funniest things I've seen. I don't understand how people can enjoy vocals like that. I couldn't stop laughing everytime he started "singing".

For those nostalgic for In Flames' glory days, I give you Shadow: one album wonder from Japan with a female singer (if you can call it that) and a sound VERY reminiscent of 'The Jester Race'.

I braved the storm with my brother Saturday and went to the Carcass show. They did not disappoint, and I am looking forward to a DVD of this tour.

Surprisingly, Suffocation was awesome. While I do have respect for them, they aren't my cup of tea, per se. They won me over. I will probably have to pick some albums up.

Necrophagist was also excellent. I don't like the cookie vocals, but damn those dudes can play. Again I might need to buy a few albums.

Last note, did anyone grab the re-issues of the Carcass albums for Earache? I have older copies and was wondering if it was worth the upgrade.

Dunno, but have you heard if they are planning another album or anything like that?

The rumor is that they are all open to the idea and will explore it once the tour ends. Translation is, they might do one. Bill Steer is the only one not busy at the moment, or so the rumor goes.

Personally, I don't know how I feel about this. One the one hand it may be too late for them to get back into the game. On the other, metal as a whole needs these guys (and At The Gates) to stay together. If they are intent of making a kick ass record, then I am all for it. If they are just cashing in (which this tour DID NOT seem like), then don't do it.

As for the re-issues, I might grab them anyways. Each comes with a DVD that has a long interview with the band, and that might be worth it. I have digital copies of all of the Carcass albums, so I might grab these for that reason also.

Well what did they play most at their show? that might give some insight on the kind of stuff they'd put out now. HOpefully it wasn't all Swansong crap

I wouldn't call Swansong crap, but that is just me.

It was a little bit of everything for everybody. I have the set list somewhere at home, I'll post it when I find it.

Asked if he thinks there is a chance that a new CARCASS album will be recorded at some point, Steer said, "I would be very surprised if that would really happen. But never say never, I'm always the last one who needs to be convinced. Michael [Amott, guitar] and Jeff [Walker, bass/vocals] are much more busy with those things than I am. I'm also not very much involved in the planning of all the festivals which are scheduled. At this moment, I barely know in which countries we're all going to play (laughs)."

Not me. All Shall Perish is my favorite metal band right now. They aren't as EXTREME as some may think, but they are technically perfect with their instruments. Guitar player can shred like Petrucci.

Any December fans here?

I was going through my eMusic downloads (great site for obscure metal) and I saw I had their album...which I totally forgot about. In my opinion, they could have been the next "big" thing. The original singer (Mark Moots) is no longer in the band and they have been quite since he left. "The Lament Configuration" is the album that I have and it is awesome. Do yourself a favor and get it.

So, some new All That Remains tomorrow. What I've heard sounds really promising. Anyone else checking it out?

Also, Avenged Sevenfold has a live DVD and new cd too, anyone interested in picking it up?

already have heard it. Its much more melodic, then the fall of ideals. 2 songs have full clean singing (including the Nevermore cover) It almost seemed like they wanted to get away from the whole metalcore label as there aren't really any breakdowns, there are much more solos, and Phil's clean voice sounds better and less the standard 'death screams with an emo sounding chorus' Fave song is Relinquish. There also aren't really any true 'death metal' songs, like 'the weak willed' or 'indictment'

Best news all day, week, month, maybe year: Peter Wichers is back in Soilwork!

It's been almost three years since guitarist Peter Wichers announced his departure from one of Sweden's elite metal forces, SOILWORK. Although this initially caused shock and discussion within the metal community, SOILWORK was determined to continue modernizing the face of music and unleashed "Sworn To A Great Divide" in October of 2007.

Still driven to be an unstoppable force, SOILWORK brings great news to all their fans with the following statement:

"Dear SOILWORK fans,

"The past two years have been great although sometimes a bit turbulent. We made another killer album and did several amazing tours around the world; and today it is with sheer joy and excitement that we announce the return of Peter Wichers as a guitarist in SOILWORK. He's been missed both as a bandmate and as a songwriter.

"We know that we can come back even stronger, and it definitely gives us a feeling of inspiration and completion to have Peter, one of the founders of SOILWORK, come back to the fold. We feel that we can look into the future with greater confidence and musical creativity. Having Peter back will complete the circle and the final lineup of the band.

"This also marks Daniel Antonsson's departure from SOILWORK as Peter's replacement since 2006. We are really grateful for Daniel's excellent work and he will be missed. However, to us it's ideal for Peter to fulfill his former duties as a songwriter and guitarist. Going separate ways with Daniel is not an easy decision for us to make, but it's the right one. We wish Daniel the best of luck in the future and many great things with his other band DIMENSION ZERO! Rock on Daniel!!!

"As we previously announced, Dirk's bandmate in SCARVE, Sylvain Coudret, has been doing session work for us throughout the summer festivals and shredding on second guitar. Therefore we're taking this opportunity to confirm Sylvain as a permanent guitar player for SOILWORK. Since we're big fans of SCARVE, we know Sylvain will make a great addition to the songwriting process for the next SOILWORK album.

"Peter's return to SOILWORK will begin on stage with the upcoming European tour."

Peter's personal statement:

"Dear fans of SOILWORK!

"Let me first of all say that I'm incredibly grateful for all the amazing feedback and support that I've received since my departure from SOILWORK almost three years ago.

"When I left SOILWORK, I was at a place in my life where I felt burnt out on touring and I needed to get my life into a more stable situation. I needed to do something other than SOILWORK, perhaps explore more diverse styles of songwriting and musical journeys. Therefore, over the past few years, I've been very focused on production, songwriting and family, and have had the privilege to work with some amazing artists on some really cool and rewarding projects.

"During my time away from the band, my good friend Björn 'Speed' and I had always kept in touch and maintained a great friendship. We recently spoke about working on a possible musical collaboration, and that's when we started toying with the idea of me perhaps returning to SOILWORK.

"I needed some time to think about it, but after careful consideration, I've decided that I still have tons of enthusiasm and creativity to contribute to SOILWORK. I have a lot of love for my brothers in the band, and I would of course be honored to once again share the stage with the greatest metal band in the world!

"So it is with great honor that I now announce my return and 110% commitment to SOILWORK. I guarantee that we'll bring forth one hell of a show and write the best album in the history of SOILWORK's career."

SOILWORK will be on tour with ZIMMERS HOLE and ONE-WAY MIRROR in Europe this November and December. Shortly after, the band will headline a massive North American tour to begin in late January 2009 with DARKANE, WARBRINGER, and SWALLOW THE SUN.
