X-Files Revelations = Great deals on X-Files at Wal-Mart

X-Files discussions are going on in a couple different threads, but this hasn't been mentioned and seemed worthy of its own thread . . .

This morning, I got the X-Files Revelations 2 DVD set at Wal-Mart for $14.96. Inside are 2 DVDs and a movie ticket worth up to $8.50 for the X-Files movie.

But also in the DVD set is a coupon for X-Files season sets or Mythology sets: $5 off 1, $10 off 2, or $20 off 3.

Well, Wal-Mart has a display of X-Files season sets, each at $19.99 and those Mythology sets, each at $15.99 (if I remember correctly).

So, I went back and used the coupon to get 3 X-Files season sets. The coupon scanned in, the cashier read the coupon carefully and then punched in the $20 off, no problems. So, it's like buy 2 get 1 free on their sale price. It works out even better if you're only interested in the Mythology sets.

I was debating whether it was worth getting another X-Files Revelations DVD set for the ticket and coupon to complete the series. The Revelations discs can always be sold or given away.

Nice find! I can't wait until someone does this and figures out what the total would be for all of the seasons.

BTW: What are the Mythology seasons?

So it would wind up costing less than $60 (with tax) to get three season sets and the movie ticket? I might have to look into this.

I have the first two seasons and could get season 3, 4, and 5. That would be more than enough for now I think.

...It's called a calculator.

9 seasons at $19.99 each: $179.91
- Three discounts at $20.00 each: $60.00
= Total cost for 9 seasons: $119.91

4 mythology sets at $15.99 each: $63.96
- One discount at $20.00 each: $20.00
- One discount at $5.00 each (for the remaining set): $5.00
= Total cost for all mythology sets: $38.96

...this is assuming that you manage to scrounge up more than one coupon (or re-use one), of course.

Is this coupon a wal-mart exclusive coupon?

Nice, but, you still have to buy the two copies of X-Files: Revelations and add that cost to the total.

Quick question about "Movie Cash"... can they be used at any theater, or only certain participating ones? And are they excluded as "passes" during the first week?

Both Hollywood Movie Money (which is the certificate in X-Files Revelations) and Movie Cash are valid for "no coupon, no pass" shows. It should say that on the certificate itself.

That's why I clarified that those totals were calculated upon the assumption that you have more than one coupon, or something like that.

You would need THREE Revelations discs to get the three discounts, so add in another 3 x $14.96 = $44.88

Total for 9 seasons and 3 Revelations discs (give em away or sell em):
$119.91 + $44.88 = $164. 79

still $15 cheaper, PLUS, you get 3 free movie tickets!!!

Why would I want three tickets to the same movie? Well, bring friends or family, OR besides actually seeing X-Files once, on two other occasions you can always buy the ticket to X-Files and then walk into a different movie.

That's not the real coupon, is it? I mean, other than the obvious, it doesn't mention the Mythology sets or the $5 or $10 off offers. I'm personally interested in getting the Mythology sets next week, and anything to make it a sweeter deal is cool in my book.

well the coupon is double sided with all the set information on one side and the usage and barcode information on the back side. Either way, no that isn't the real one but then again I'm not sure how creating your own promotional advertisement and adding the real barcode would work at WalMart. Just depends on if they've seen the real one I guess

As far as I can tell, the coupon is only good for $$ off the full season sets, even though the Mythology sets are also pictured on the coupon. At least that's what the text of the coupon seems to imply (I suppose YMMV with retailers).
EDIT: Oops - my bad - checked the coupon last night and it definitely can be used for the Mythology releases. Sorry if I caused anyone any confusion!

Ahem..No. it is not exclusive.

That coupon posted by DVD Polizei is obviously home made.. but
the bar code may scan. It is YMMV.... be ware.

The retailer may reject since it is not the original.

Is this at least the right barcode? Because if it is, most Walmarts that I know of have self checkout lanes. If it is the right barcode, it significantly reduces the YMMV of the coupon if you could scan it in yourself at a self checkout lane.

No, this isn't a legit coupon. None of it is--except the X-Files font I had on my computer.

The UPC is just a generic example. Please don't use it. For all I know, if you use it, Homeland Security is notified and you'll get waterboarded at walmart.

My apologies to anyone. I chuckled and laughed, but I'd hate for anyone to actually use this sucker. Of course, if it gets picked up at FW, I'm ok with that.

I picked up the Revelations disc last night, along with season 1. I've been meaning to pick up this series for a while now and I figure now is a good time to start. I want to try and get the whole series (I'm only using the coupon on 3 sets obviously unless someone finds a way to use more) while they are on sale, so hopefully this sale will last a little while.

I have the complete set, but I recall hearing there is bonus material on the Mythology discs which does not appear on the "complete" set.

Is it worth doing this to get them?

The only material that is not carried over from the Mythology sets to the bonus disc in the complete set is the audio commentaries on selected episodes.
