Breeders - Mountain Battles [04/08/08]

Pitchfork has all you need to know about the long awaited new Breeders album "Mountain Battles":

http://tinyurl.com/33cuhk

Except the tracklist, which I yanked from wikipedia [so take it for what it's worth]:

1. "Overglazed"
2. "Bang On"
3. "Night Of Joy"
4. "We're Gonna Rise"
5. "German Studies"
6. "Spark"
7. "Istanbul"
8. "Walk It Off"
9. "Regalame Esta Noche"
10. "Here No More"
11. "No Way"
12. "It's The Love"
13. "Mountain Battles"

They were streaming 'We're Gonna Rise' on their myspace, but it was taken down. [The link in the Pitchfork article just goes to that site.] It was gorgeous, absolutely stunningly gorgeous.

I cannot wait for this.

You know, Last Splash was the last record I got by them, but if this gets good buzz, I'll be picking it up. It was one of my all-time most listened-to tapes and when I put on the album recently it just hadn't aged well. Not that it was bad, it just wasn't brilliant.

Really? I think it's aged incredibly well - in fact, I'd say it, "Pod", and especially "Pacer" have aged better than any of the Pixies records. [That said, I've always enjoyed the Breeders more than the Pixies, so there you have it.] And "Title TK" is my choice for favorite album of the decade so far, so I am beyond excited for this one.

Personally, I thought Kim was wasting her time with the Pixies reunion, but I understand the reasoning behind it. I'm just glad that's out of the way and we're getting more Breeders stuff.

Not that that was ever going to happen anyway, really:

I kind of like the Pixies not putting anything new out and pulling an "Eagles." Let the original stuff stand.

This leaked btw..and I must say, I find it pretty lackluster and forgettable (for me anyways)..especially for this long of a wait between albums. It's not really rockin at all, maybe it's just what I expected.
This is just a first listen though.

When it came out I felt that way about Title TK too, I think maybe because it sounded more like the Amps than the Breeders, but now I listen to it probably more than anything else by them (especially Huffer and Full On Idle which are great songs for driving home from work).

I'm really looking forward to the new album, I never thought we'd get another one.

The Buffalo show last night was amazing. It was their first one since finishing the album, so we got to be the "guinnea pigs" according to Kim. We got at least half of the new album, and outside of 'Night Of Joy' which really didn't do much for me, all of the new stuff sounded great. It did sound like they were out-"Title TK"ing "Title TK", so if you didn't like that one I imagine you might find "Mountain Battles" a bit of a disappointment.

We also got 'Shocker In Gloomtown' which totally made my night.

I can't wait for the album now.

"We couldn't find tickets that matched your request". Does that mean the show is sold out? Tried various ticket combos, with same result.
