Should I buy an XBox 360 HD Drive for my 42"Panasonic Plasma(HdReady)?

Hi

Is this combo

42"Panasonic PX70(not Full HD) + XBox 360 HD Drive

worth it?

I have read many reviews on both but I just can't make up my mind ....

Out of interest, would you get any advantage feeding the Panasonic Plasma with a 1080p source ?

How does it compare the same movie, say "BBC Planet Earth", feeding the Plasma with 1080p vs 720p?

Has anyone had a chance to compare the same movie on both formats?

Worth it?

I've watched episodes of Planet Earth on both BD and HD and they looked identical. My set maxes at 1800i though.

FWIW, I'm using the 360 & PS3 as my players.

Well if you have to buy them together, why not? BUT, if you can buy an HD player seperately, you can find HD players for $200 bucks which isn't much more than the external HD-DVD drive for the 360.

Then, you will have less wear and tear on your Xbox 360.

Do you have to run the console to use the player? My 360 makes a hell of a racket. I wouldn't want one if that is the case.

Yes, you do need the console to run the player. Which also means if your console shits the bricks, then you won't be enjoying HD.

If you can find a good deal on the 360 HD player, I'd go for it. It's a great player for the price, but everyone here is right, it'd be more beneficial in the long-run to get a separate HD-DVD player.

Just got a 360 HD-DVD add on through points on my AMEX card. Now I know that for upconverting through the 360, you need the VGA cords, but if you have the add on and run your SD-DVDs through it, do you still need the VGA cords for upconversion? Not a big deal really just wondering.

VGA or HDMI (if you have the newer 360 models) might upconvert. To be honest I'm not so sure the 360 upconverts at all. The games do, but not so sure about DVDs.

EDIT: And honestly, I would rather watch it non-upconverted through component cables than deal with the horrible colors the VGA cables produce.

The 360 will upconvert, but you can't do it over component.

There's no lossless audio either, correct?
