from pitchforkmedia:

Bjork to Share Volta in May

At last! After months of speculation and a little Internet mischief, Icelandic swan princess Björk has revealed the title and release date for her sixth full-length proper and follow-up to 2004's a cappella experiment Medúlla.

Volta includes 10 new songs and graces the earth May 7 via, we presume, Elektra.

As previously reported, it's quite an eclectic, star-studded affair: Björk duets with Antony, trades beats with Timbaland, and receives "percussive delights" (oh my) from Lightning Bolt's Brian Chippendale, mbira merriment from Konono N°1, kora joys from Toumani Diabate, pipa playing from Min Xiao-Fen, and even more percussive delights from Chris Corsano (my oh my). Björk even assembled a 10-piece all-female brass section from Iceland to toot horns on three tracks.

Contrary to previous reports, Volta was written and produced entirely by Björk, according to her website. The ever-inventive songstress debuts the new record at a bunch of festivals this spring and summer, including Coachella, Sasquatch!, and Glastonbury.

Sounds like it'll be a bit more traditional (for Bjork, at least) than Medúlla.
Good thing, too, because that was the first of her albums I couldn't stomach.

Fantastic news!! I'm a huge Bjork fan, though I gotta agree with Randy about "Medulla". There were only a few bright spots on that album (IMO).

bump

there is a brief (16 seconds) non-vocal snippet of Earth Intruders on YouTube. I haven't been this excited for new Bjork since Homogenic.

Cool... I also am glad to hear she's going back to "normal" fare.

I agree. Just about any album can grow on me after repeated listens, but Medulla was just too tough a bone to swallow. I do respect her for doing her own thing and not giving a care if others want to hear it or not, but it doesn't necessarily mean everything she does is going to be good.

I'll have to dissent, I just loved Medulla. I love her other stuff too, but Medulla was a real treat, otherworldly and haunting stuff. Our boy was just a baby when it came out and it was the first music he really "noticed" too - guess it struck a primal chord or something. Anyway, very excited about Volta.

I love Medulla, too.

I lucked out and nabbed a ticket to one of the handful of shows she's doing in N America in May when Volta is released. I can't wait!

Yeah WTF is up with that? What, 7 shows in the US and 3 are in fuckin' New York? I'm really hopin' she adds more shows. The one time I saw her was one of the best shows I've ever seen.

Look, I understand that Bjork is "different". I understand that she may not want to do a huge tour, but damn, try to spread the love a lil' bit Bjork!

It wouldnt surprise me if she has a lot of requirements or is finicky about where she plays. A fan did try to kill her once.

The rumour on the net is that it is an April Fool's joke. I am hoping that is true.

Wow, on my way into work tonight I was listening to a local College station KCRW here in LA. They played a new cut from VOLTA and at first I thought it was remix of a 90's BJORK song then I realized it was new. Man, I really liked it.

Can you imagine that? BJORK on the radio
