Lily Allen - Alright, Still
So I stumbled across Lily Allen and don't know how mainstream she is but her songs caught my attention.
It's some type of upbeat brit-pop which I found interesting to listen to.

I don't even expect a reply to this thread, so prove me right

I first heard her album a few months ago. I like it, but then again I'm a sucker for Brit pop music that actually has British accents... Streets, Lady Sovereign, Goldie Lookin' Chain, etc.

I was actually going to start a thread about her today. The latest Sound Opinions podcast featured a review of her album and some clips - and I was instantly hooked. Somehow, I missed all of the internet hype surrounding her (it was probably more prevalent in the UK).
Anyway, I...ahem...acquired her album last night (it doesn't hit stateside until February) and love it. Just great hook-filled pop. "LDN" is probably my favorite right now.
And though her looks don't really do anything for me, her accent's kind of a turn-on.

She's getting big here in the States. If any of you have seen Grey's Anatomy this season, they played "Take What You Like" in a scene with Addison and her lover in the bar. She has a lot of songs already if you know where to look. She even had a piss-take on 50 Cents' Window Shopper about her grandma.

I love Lily! She has some great interviews on youtube.com. Let's just say she isn't afraid to speak her mind. Love her video for "Smile" and the new version of the "LDN" video. Can't wait for the album.

January or February. This album is so good that, even though I got it off of bit torrent, I'll likely buy a copy when it's released domestically (along with some other current import-only titles: Jarvis Cocker, Amy Winehouse, etc.).
EDIT: Based on this, it'll be out on January 30th.

I've listened to a few more and it's an enjoyable CD - still enjoy "Smile" more than the others puts together.
Listened to part of the US version of Smile. Had to stop it because it was HORRIBLE. They broke "Smile."
I do find that she sounds the same in all the songs - I don't see much of a range.

I've had the UK version for about a month or so and I quite like it. It's pop with a little bit of an edge - although I must say that having seen her, I wonder is its manufactured edge. I might not care because the music is so catchy. I'm really digging "Not Big".

Was the US version tweaked or altered in any way? I listened to a clip of one of the songs (forget which one) on iTunes and it seemed a bit different.
Either way, I'm still going to buy it; but I'll hang on to my import mp3s.
BTW, she'll be on SNL this week.

I was at Best Buy to pick up another CD, and I saw her CD for $7.99. I thought about picking it up, but I had already spent a lot on CDs this past month (updating my 2007 spending tab post soon).
But I remember looking at my Spin magazine and I looked past her review. I figured I'd go home and read it first. Now I might take a chance on it for only $8.
Anyway, just a heads up for anyone who's thinking of picking this up.

Caught her show last night at Great American Music Hall
Excellent stuff, very poppy and full of energy, a throwback to madness
and the specials.
She did 2 covers,
Keane - Everybody's changing
and
The Specials - Blank Expression
