I liked the movie a lot... it was about 25 minutes too long, but other than that, it was very well done...too bad Nicchol didn't have a better editor to push to trim some of it, then it could have been GREAT... nevertheless, I'm going to pick up the 2 discer most likely.

bad news, looks like Lions Gate cropped the 2.35:1 image down to 1.78:1 for the DVD release.

Not to doubt you or anything, but do you have a link? Or some sort of proof? That would surely suck, but I am sure it will be in its OAR in some other region.

This is untrue. The disc is in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen. I just watched it last night.

I was really looking forward to this movie, but was left underwhelmed by it, although it was a good movie (not great though). I agree that it was too long, but I would definitely recommend it for a rental.

I just picked up Lord Of War at my local Wal-Mart and was surprised to find that it has an aspect ratio of 1.78:1 (even though the deleted scenes still appear in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio as I remember viewing the film). What gives?

Might have been the director's decision, like what happened with The Recruit. Personally if that's what they want I don't mind, I'd rather they open up the frame than crop it even further, like the Top Gun SE.

Inded, Barnes & Noble reports that the film is in "Alternate Widescreen", of 1.78:1. I cannot find information on whether or not the 2-disc special edition suffers the same malady.

For God's sake, "alternate" widescreen?

I compared a few shots on disc one to a couple of extended scenes on disc two that feature the same shots and the film is slightly cropped and slightly oppen matte at the same time. Kind of like when a 2.39:1 film shot in Super35 is modified to an aspect ratio of 1.33:1. Except in this case the finished ratio is 1.78:1. Had this been oppen matte like say Once Upon A Time In Mexico I wouldn't mind but this is basically full screen for the 16:9 set.

Oh and my copy is of the two disc set.
