Thanks for reminding me to buy this from R2. In answer to your question, I had thought it would be announced to dovetail into the release of A Very Long Engagement but thus far that clearly hasn't been the case. I have no idea what the hold-up is, sorry.

I'd really like to see a R1 of this, as well. The only times I have gotten to see the film are the handful of days I've watched a terrible quality recorded VHS tape, that apparently was copied and copied before reaching my friend, who copied it from a professor who does film lectures.

I'd like to see a good DVD transfer of it, one day. Hopefully.

My $3 R3 copy looks pretty good.

I remember hearing that an R1 is in the works. Jeunet wasn't happy with the existing transfer, so he was waiting for a new transfer for the R1 release.

Maybe the hold-up was because Jeunet was busy on A Very Long Engagement...maybe now, he can supervise the transfer or whatever needs to be done (just speculation, I know no more than anyone else).

I have the nice French R2 tin which contains 3 Jeunet & Caro films including Delicatessen, but there are no english subs.

Going by the specs on the R3, it appears that there are no english subs. Can anyone confirm this?

The R3 disc looks anything but good. As it is the case with 99% of all French releases (in Korea for example...) this appears to be a direct PAL-NTSC port hence much of the dreaded "ghosting". There was a discussion at the Danish DVD-forum regarding these ports. And DVDBEAVER has had plenty to say about improper ports as well (in case you are more interested).

The UK disc as mentioned by Daniel is just fine. If English subs are not needed similar to eXcentris I would recommed the French set (which omes with City of Lost Children):

Excellent film, right now it seems as if the only DVD worth getting is the R2 version from UK, unless you speak French, which I unfortunatley have never got around to.

Cheers

^thanks!

I kinda figured it was a short film like that. Too bad it doesn't have Dominic Pinon.
