Even that '99 release was lightyears past the way it had been for previous video releases. We're spoiled now. I still remember the awe I felt when I got the remastered laserdisc and compared it even to the first laserdisc release, let alone VHS. That '99 DVD release was basically the same master (although they had mistakenly used the wrong transfer-they used the first pass instead of the later transfer actually used for the laser.).

Just to correct - the R2 UK disc shown earlier utilizes the later corrected transfer not used for the Pioneer dvd releases as Don May Jr himself has previously stated. The 'fake-anamorphic' PAL release refered to is the Australian R4 release I believe. The R2UK disc is currently the preferable release, PAL speed-up notwithstanding, until the true anamorphic release surfaces.

Davisdvd.com just posted something about this today.

Dark Sky Film's details for a new two-disc edition of The Texas Chainsaw to be released sometime in September!

Technical Specs
- A new anamorphic widescreen transfer from a new high-definition transfer of the 16mm camera negative.
- A new Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 stero mixes and the original mono track.

Bonus materials
- A new commentary track with stars Marilyn Burns, Alan Danziger, Paul A. Partain and Production Designer Robert A. Burns.
- A second commentary track with Tobe Hooper, Director of Photography Daniel Pearl and Gunnar Hansen. This will be the same as the Pioneer release.
- David Gregory's documentary Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Shocking Truth.
- A new documentary produced by Red Shirt Pictures.
- Deleted scenes and alternate footage.
- Traliers, TV spots, radio spots and still galleries.

Well maybe we can get it right this time, just in time for it to be re-re-released again on Blu-Ray/HD-DVD...

There is a documentary called The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: A Family Portrait that is available in other regions. The one included here will be The Shocking Truth. I remember reading about a documentary for which fans have been pining for years. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Which is which?

A Family Portrait is the one that was made here in the US and can be found cheaply (used to be in Best Buy's bargain section). The Shocking Truth was made by Brits and is the one that was only available in other regions. This is the doc that is quite comprehensive and a must-have for die-hard TCM fans (much better than Family Portrait IMO).

The Dark Sky website, btw, no longer has any info regarding this SE release.

They never did. Just recently they added titles to the coming soon page that are to be released on July 25th. It's still too early. Seeing as the new Chainsaw release won't be out until September, they probably won't officially announce it until June or July.

Maybe not. But Dark Sky did have an advertisement banner for the Chainsaw SE on another site (I think it was Horror Channel).

When it was originally released in 2000, the running time was 72 minutes. The edition that will appear on MPI/Dark Sky's DVD this September will be extended by 8 minutes bringing the total time to 80 minutes. I've never seen it because it has never been available on Region 1 NTSC DVD. At that time, it was available only on Region 2 PAL DVD and NTSC VHS and I refused to order a VHS tape. It's about time we get this documentary on DVD in the US. Damn, it took them six years.

You can read about it here.

Yeah, no shit. Maybe they filmed the TCM2 cast reunion at Texas Frightmare Weekend recently? That would be a start down the right road for a SE.

Thank goodnes, what I got has no dent, no missing insert and no double special features disc

And not like others who imports a crappy R2 version

So...Why is there a need for such R2? (which cost shipment and a Multi-System/region DVD/TV)
