Like the subject line says, just purchased the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original 70's version) Special Edition for $6.99 at DDD. SMRP was $19.99.

Yep, that's a great price for that movie.

Also, Best Buy still has it for $6.99 as well if you're so inclined.

I heard a better version was in the works and that's why this version is so cheap. Well I'm gonna still wait.

All the US region 1 dvds of the original TCM are the same content. Just different covers and disc art.

There's a 16x9 hdtv transfer on Voom but there's no official word on a new dvd.

yes
No, actually it isn't. Regardless of what Best Buy's website says.

Also, it doesn't have the digital superscan transer on it. That one was made for the Elite SE Laserdisc set, but they used an older transfer for the DVD. It pisses me off that they kept the misprint on both releases of the DVD. There have been extended discussions of this over at the HTF.

What Stoney said.

There was actually a better transfer made a decade ago for laserdisc. It was accidentally (??) not used for the DVD. Frustrating, but that definitely means that an improved DVD is not out of the question for 2005 or sometime later.
