Nintendo to buy Capcom?
Well, the rumors are spreading on the internet quite fast, so I thought I'd do my part to bring it to DVDtalk.
Personally I think Capcom makes some great games and this is good news for GC owner if it happens. However, I think it's bad for the industry as a whole. With more and more companies being bought it's just going to get worse.
Frankly if it goes down, Nintendo getting rid of Rare for Capcom makes a A LOT of sense.

Well, the fact that Capcom plans on releasing 5 exclusives to the GCN is quite supportive of this. That's why I could never believe the MS rumors. - Many of those titles appeal to an older demographic. Regardless if the sale is true, Nintendo is def. trying to attract the older market.
I think it will be quite interesting to see what they do with their next system. Nintendo is finally starting to take the gloves off.

There are a heck of a lot of rumors flying around 4 companies:
Sega
Konami
Capcom
Namco
There has been talk of merges (Sega/Namco, Konami/Namco, Konami/Sega, Capcom/Namco, etc.), talks of buyouts (Nintendo buying Capcom, Microsoft buying Sega, Nintendo buying Namco, etc.) and talks that this is all a bunch of BS.
We can sit here and go through tons of different scenarios...

I agree, street fighter (or any other Capcom fighter) on a GC controller is a scary thought.

I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo bought Production Studio 4(the division of Capcom making the 5 gamecube exclusive games), but all of Capcom seems a bit of a stretch. They're releasing quite a few games for the xbox and especially ps2, they'd have to either ditch them/port them to GC.. or just release them anyway, which doesn't seem likely.

A merger of 2 of the 4 companies is the strongest one so far outside of one of the Big 3 buying out 1 of the 4.

Hmm...
If Nintendo owned a company such as Capcom, that would in effect allow them to publish games on other consoles correct?
In other words, just as Sony will make money from the sales of FF:CC on the cube, Nintendo could make money off of Sony and MS through titles they allow capcom to cross publish...
Just a thought.
I agree that these rumors have been all over the place lately. But with this particular rumor showing up on several sites I wonder if there is more merit to it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen.
Nintendo decided not buy Rare when they had the chance because they just aren't worth the money, give how long they take to make games. Plus their franchises aren't really system sellers. Perfect Dark would of helped, but the lame new cel shaded/comic book design could hurt it IMO.
Anyway, you have to think that they had plans to buy another developer instead, and Capcom makes sense given the RE deal and Capcom's financial woes.
I don't really want to see it happen, I'd prefer them stay third party.
From a games standpoint I realy don't care as I'm not a big Capcom fan. The old street fighter and Mega Man games were great, but I never cared much for RE, DMC etc.

Yeah, I was talking sales wise, not quality wise, with "lame" put in because I personally hate cel shading.
Zelda was always a "cartoonish" game so it wasn't a big deal, and look at all the uproar over that.
Perfect Dark was a violent first person shooter aimed at an older crowd, the cel shading could really alienate that audience.

Being based on a comic makes it ok, plus there is pretty much no hype over that game that I've seen.
Not to mention that it doesn't have a non-cel shaded prequel that was very popular.
Apples and oranges.
