Feedback-like noise when using TV and surround sound

Hi everybody. Whenever I turn on my TV and try to use surround sound, I hear a high-pitched feedback-like sound from the speakers. How can I correct this? Is it my hardware, wiring, or what?

The equipment and setup I'm working with is: Panasonic (non-HDTV) 32" TV, JVC RX-668V A/V receiver, Bose speakers: Three speakers in front, 2 rear speakers, and woofer. The TV is at one end of the room, and the receiver is at the opposite side of the room, with the speakers in a typical 5.1 setup. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
