Re: What´s HOT in Asian cinema right now?

Agreed on Banshee, though I like Justified a bit more, only because it's had longer to stretch it's legs and is a bit more charming - but if I compared just first seasons, then yes, Banshee is the...

Re: What´s HOT in Asian cinema right now?

I blind-bought Berlin Files, based on some good word-of-mouth and that it looks interesting and that it's the kind of blu-ray that sells out quick. I'll report back on how I like it, but it seems...

Re: What´s HOT in Asian cinema right now?

Nope. I personally hated it. And I think it got worse as it went, especially the 2nd season. I watched the whole thing, hoping it'd get better, and it didn't. Most of the people who watched the whole...

Re: What´s HOT in Asian cinema right now?

Love Exposure has been on my radar for a while now. I've heard nothing but amazing things about it - so my expectations are pretty high. But I suppose I can wait a bit until the domestic blu-ray...

Re: What´s HOT in Asian cinema right now?

Ah man, that's a bummer about Life Without Principle. I was just getting ready to watch it soon too; expectations re-adjusted!

BTW, I was really bored with House of the Devil on my first viewing,...

Re: What´s HOT in Asian cinema right now?

Thanks - I was thinking of getting Viral Factor (I've liked most of Lam's other movies), but now I'll pass. I'm looking at Johnnie To's new one, Life Without Principle - I've really liked most of his...

Re: What´s HOT in Asian cinema right now?

Agreed!

Based on your recommendation, I ordered The Yellow Sea blu-ray, and I really dug it.

Re: What´s HOT in Asian cinema right now?

The US blu-ray for 13 Assassins will be out on July 5 for just $19, I'd say wait for that.

Re: What´s HOT in Asian cinema right now?

^ I know that, but it's not the 18th (or March) yet. Are you saying these people are time travelers?

Re: What´s HOT in Asian cinema right now?

Where are all you people seeing "I Saw the Devil"? Is there a dvd/blu-ray I don't know about?

Re: What´s HOT in Asian cinema right now?

Started off good, but it got a bit more weird and silly than I was expecting. Overall it was alright, but not too special.

Just ordered Donnie Yen's "Legend of the Fist" on blu-ray. I'll let you all know how it is asap.

Re: What´s HOT in Asian cinema right now?

Looking forward to seeing "The Man From Nowhere" - I hear it's a brutal revenge story. Domestic blu-ray/dvd comes out in March.

Re: What´s HOT in Asian cinema right now?

Like most of Yen's movies, it has some stunning action scenes, but a lame story/script.

Re: What´s HOT in Asian cinema right now?

It hasn't been released to DVD/blu-ray yet. It just hit the theaters in Hong Kong and is making the festival rounds here.

Re: What´s HOT in Asian cinema right now?

I have about 15 HK blu-rays, and I haven't been disappointed by a single one, A/V-wise (PS3, newer Panasonic 50" plasma).

I agree that HK dvds have been spotty over the years, but for the most...

Re: What´s HOT in Asian cinema right now?

Hmmm. I watched this a couple years ago, and while I didn't love it, I thought it was alright (think it was the theatrical version). It had it's moments of cheese that were balanced out with some...

Re: What´s HOT in Asian cinema right now?

Speaking of To, how's the blu-ray for his Sparrow?

And how's his new one, Vengeance - isn't it supposed to be the 3rd in his crime trilogy consisting of The Mission and Exiled, his two best movies?

Re: What´s HOT in Asian cinema right now?

I bought the R3 dvd of that the second it came out, and similarly, I would buy a blu-ray the second it comes out.

Fantastic flick - starts a bit slow, but man, once it gets going, it's so awesome.

Re: What´s HOT in Asian cinema right now?

Ichi (the female take on Zatoichi) was pretty good - the UK blu-ray looks fantastic, is all-region and can be had for around $10.

Re: What´s HOT in Asian cinema right now?

I never stated or implied that it was "amateurish". In fact, it's just as well-made and professional as the average Hollywood flick It's just not a big and slick production - it's more like an...
