I dunno. I always think of the "Black Lassie" track from Cheech & Chong's Wedding Album when I hear that riff. Hi, I'm Johnny Stash......

Depends on the majority ruling collective viewpoint.

In here, responding in a way somebody doesn't like appears to be above historical acts of mass genocide.

Well damn, that's nearly everybody. For example, the previous president who follows a religious leader that said "you must not kill," "turn the other cheek," "offer the wicked man no resistance," continued to order drone strikes that killed innocent people.

When you're on the same side as David Duke, you're on the wrong side. There's civil discourse and then there's views that aren't even worth discussing.

You are on the same side as the Pulse nightclub shooter and most other felons.

David Duke has directly and publicly supported Trump and friends numerous times. The Pulse nightclub shooter targeted homosexuals and Latinos. I've never said anything negative about either group. And I have no idea what the fuck "most other felons" means

The Pulse nightclub shooter (and his family) supported Clinton, just like you did. Yes he was homophobic, which I assume you are since you both support the same candidate. So since we have established that you are a bigot, I dont feel the need to be civil to you.

I denounce the Pulse Nightclub shooter's actions and his warped view of the world. Do you do the same of David Duke?

Of course I do. Do you think supporting the same candidate as a bigot means that you are also a bigot? Do any Democrats have a warped view of the world and are horrible people?

I don't mind most Dukes -- Bo, Luke, Daisy, Patty, Duke Ellington. But David Duke? I could do without David Duke.

Re: Demise of Public Civil Discourse Toward Opposing Viewpoints

Duke not only supports Trump, he supports the policies Trump and fellow Repubs are putting in place. That's what "being on their side" means.

Just supporting a candidate is not what I was calling out, but rather agreement with their treatment of non-white people.

No, no. David Duke, and now Trump, are leaders of this country and it's your duty to bow down and show respect. Who cares how much disrespect they show to others in that official capacity.

I've seen variations of this argument quite a bit over the last year and disagree with it. If I find out David Duke is a huge pizza enthusiast, I'm not going to stop eating pizza. A shitheel can support a candidate for non-shitheel reasons, or even for shitheel reasons that may not be relevant to why someone else supports a candidate. Now if we want to talk about Trump throwing out racist dogwhistles that appeal to people like Duke, that's a whole other thing and very worthy of noting and criticizing. But just saying, 'well this asshole likes him, so he's got to be horrible' isn't a legitimate criticism on its own. There are enough horrible people in the world that I'm sure every candidate is supported by some of them.

Re: Demise of Public Civil Discourse Toward Opposing Viewpoints

But Duke doesn't operate a pizzeria. When he supports a political candidate and party, especially one that is clearly on the same page as Duke on many things, and he/they don't denounce him and his beliefs, then the that connection is 100% valid. YMMV.

Re: Demise of Public Civil Discourse Toward Opposing Viewpoints

If Duke advocated putting rat sausage on pizza, and claimed that only pizza with rat sausage was any good, and then he declared a certain pizzeria to be the best in the world, wouldn't that give you pause?

This has been posted in other threads, but it's relevant here as well.

Sometimes, there's just no talking to people and nothing constructive can come from it.
