Steve Bannon - Threat or Menace?

So while the country was mobilizing against Trump's Muslim ban, Trump put Steve Bannon on the National Security Council.

Quote:
Counseling Trump in the effort will be Stephen Bannon, the White House chief strategist whose influence inside the administration is expanding far beyond politics. In an executive order, Trump reorganized the National Security Council to, along with other changes, give Bannon a regular seat on the principals committee - the meetings of the most senior national security officials, including the secretaries of defense and state.

Trump's order also states that the director of national intelligence and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs will sit on the principals committee only when the issues to be discussed pertain to their "responsibilities and expertise.
" In the previous two administrations, both were included as regular attendees.
To review the situation
  1. Bannon took over Breitbart and transformed it from a rightwing web site into a haven for Neo-Nazis the "alt-right".
  2. After Paul Manafort left, Bannon stepped in as a cheif advisor. He, probably more than Kellyanne Conway, is responsible for Trump's victory.
  3. SInce the inaugration, Bannon has brought in several Breitbart reporters to staff positions.
  4. Bannon is very likely responsible for the slew of Executive Orders Trump has been issuing. He's apparently been drafting them on his own, without consultation with the White House Office of Legal Councel.
  5. Meanwhile, Breitbart, which Bannon is no longer involved with, in the same way that Trump has divested himself from his business interest, has opened up European branches which seem gung-ho on promoting far right candidates in France and Germany.

At this point, I think Bannon's more dangerous than Trump. The problem is, what can anyone do to get rid of him short of the CIA slipping some polonium into his coffee? His position in the West Wing is unofficial, so he doesn't need Congressional approval, and legally the President has the right to consult with advisors beyond the official Cabinet. There's not much Congress can do to pry Bannon loose from the administration without passing a bill of attainder. I suppose Congress could pass a law limiting the NSC to a group they choose, but that still wouldn't prevent Bannon from writing domestic policy.

Re: Steve Bannon - Threat or Menace?

Conway is a goofy menace, who we get to laugh at and have fun. Silly Conway and her Alternative Facts!

Bannon is a threat. He is very in-touch with the people who's voice that led to the disgusting "Muslim Ban" today. There are twenty more equally horrible viewpoints available to pull from. I would hope the backlash to the Muslim Ban will be so swift and harsh (including from the GOP), they'll think twice about pulling this kind of stunt again. Somehow, I think they'll convince themselves they were right, and continue on as-though they're doing the right thing (they're not).

Bannon is probably the most immediate threat to the Republic that exists right now. He is an out and out Nazi and he's running the executive branch.

Years from now, historians will look back on Bannon as America's Rasputin.

On a more superficial level, the man looks like a cigarette butt had sex with dandruff and then slept off a Mad Dog drunk in a roadside ditch.

He does look like he just got done shackling twelve eight year olds in his basement dungeon.

No no no. Didn't you hear? It's all Obama and liberals fault. They hurt feelings of conservatives with snark and mockery - and that prompted them to get out and vote.

You're stuck with these people because many of you decided to stay home or decided Hillary would be even worse and voted Trump.

And if the type of behaviors I see continue, you'll be stuck with these people for 8 years.

No, we're here because a large part of the American population are secretly fascists who crave a big strong man who'll shit on their enemies.

Not naming any names, mind you, but there's one posting in this thread.

And we'll be stuck with people like you for a lifetime. This is what America is all about.

I'm disappointed that this thread didn't include a "threat" or "menace" poll.

Ahhhh, ok. So, now we've gone from a small minority who are fascists and racists before the election...to now we have a large part of the population who are secret fascists.

You sound like those who say there are large parts of the Muslim population...who are secretly wanting the destruction of the US.

You don't see yourself becoming exactly who your opponent is?

The ones that say that are the same ones that secretly want a fascist regime in control.

Bannon wants a church state, Trump is his lackey, Pence will be president and help it happen.

That's about all it comes down to.

Re: Steve Bannon - Threat or Menace?

I figure Bannon must have something on Trump to have as much power as he does. I don't for a minute think that Trump is smart enough to have a fall guy in him. And any other person would be fired over the next week because the press is talking about how Bannon is pulling the strings, and Trump's ego can't take that.

I waffle back and forth between Rasputin and Joseph Goebbels Jr.

I guess the lesson to be learned is that when people say they want to vote a fascist into office you shouldn't criticize them for it, because then they'll vote a fascist into office.
