re: The Offical Trump Presidency Thread: #Covfefe

It is now more clear than ever that we need an independent, public investigation into Russian interference in the election. This House committee cannot be entrusted to conduct an impartial, thorough investigation. It is not acting in a bipartisan manner, and it is not focused on the threat of Russian attacks to American national security and democracy. Without an independent, public investigation, we may never learn the truth.

Call your representatives and demand an independent, public investigation.

Meanwhile on Twitter...

TRUMP DID NOT ONCE REBUKE RUSSIA OR WARN IT. Trump cares more about covering his own ass and protecting his oversized ego than American national security or democracy. He could have at least tweeted a token comment, just to pretend that he gives a shit, but he couldn't be bothered. What a narcissist. Un-fucking-believable.

People can say what they want about the Democratic party but the GOP is setting new levels of embarrassment.

First, we had the outright lies about Obamacare and the resolute desire to "repeal" it and now they are all concerned and weepy over the effects of doing so. Then you had the THEFT of a SCOTUS justice with the Senate having the unmitigated audacity to act as if their actions were not only warranted but expected by the American people.

The amount of ignorance on display about the Russian infiltration is astounding. These people will do anything - anything - to stay in power and get re-eelcted. Nunez claiming he never heard of Roger Stone? Repubs acting as if the issue at hand are intelligence leaks and not a hacked election. I see Republicans on TV like Tucker Carlson carrying water for Putin and using "the Russians aren't so bad" line of reasoning. It's shocking how easily the core ideology of the GOP has changed.

While Pence would be a far right religious leader, he'd be reasonable and would respect the institutions this country and the world are based on. Trump was supposed to be palatable because he'd be unpredictable and sometimes side with the left and sometimes with the right. All we've seen if a severe shift to the right and the attempt to destroy, unwittingly or not, the very things that provide peace and stability in the world.

Pence would be George W. without the likability. Not great for the left but at least predictable.

For instance, on the DAY Comey testifies that the administration is under FBI investigation because of alleged ties to Russia, The Secretary of State states he will be skipping the NATO meeting and instead will be attending meetings in FUCKING RUSSIA. This is not normal.

This. And he knows how to address an audience, can probably take meetings with world leaders without embarrassing the majority of the nation every time he opens his mouth, and probably THINKS BEFORE HE SPEAKS.

Yeah I've frequently seen unhinged Democrats saying that we can't get rid of Trump because then we'd have President Pence. Sorry but NOTHING short of an outright dyed in the wool dictator would be worse than what we got now.

Pence sure comes across as a more civil public persona, doesn't mean that he's not a nutty bastard. Look up his extremist positions on abortion, LGBTQ Rights, separation of church and state, etc.....

Sorry, nothing compares to the completely unqualified, unhinged lunatic we have now. We've had presidents with extreme positions. We've never had someone who literally does not have the ability to do the job in almost any capacity like we do now.

Yeah, the bar is so low that it makes a religious loony like Pence look good.

Arnold is the best. He offers to meet with Trump. Even if it's going to be uncomfortable. I'd be really surprised if Trump takes him up on the offer. More likely, Trump will hide from it and then find a reason to insult Arnold on Twitter in a month or two.

Problem is that Trump's efforts don't and won't hold up under scrutiny. It'd be an embarrassment for him to meet with Arnold at that school. Trump can only make those decisions from behind a desk. He doesn't want to actually have to go face to face with the people it hurts.

Yeah, I used to be among the camp of "Pence would be worse because he has extreme positions while Trump has no beliefs at all," until Trump started "governing."

I agree Pence on his own would not be acceptable to anybody but an extreme Evangelical. But at this point it appears Trump's agenda is the same as Pence, Bannon, etc. So might as well dump Trump and go with Pence.

Ball is still in the Republicans' court. Remember - they wanted a businessman president for the past 30 years (maybe longer). To come in and fix everything. Now they have the house and senate, with a businessman president. This should be Republican fantasy time. But it doesn't seem to be turning out the way they had it framed in their heads.

How are they going to explain that? Probably, "Well, we didn't have the right businessman in place".

Trump still has plenty of time to build a flourishing economic bubble (which seems to be what people really want). But it might be too soon, as the sting from the last bubble burst is still on peoples' minds.

and that would be true. I'm not saying that having an excellent businessman as president is the answer but it is quite illogical to use the worst businessman as "proof" that what is not needed is a businessman.

The only conclusion that can be made is that having a con-man as president is not helpful.

Sorry but no. He doesn't have plenty of time. Trump supporters (that is a subset of Trump voters) haven't been concerned that he is a liar. But his lies are beginning to affect them and so now, "stuff" just got real. It's going to be even more difficult for him to do anything with any support because some of his supporters are beginning to wake up... not because of a sudden burst of discernment but because they are starting to feel the effects of alternative-facts.

I'm thinking we're not going to see another businessman president for a long, long time. The test was a dismal failure from day one.

I'm actually surprised the Repubs didn't have their shit together. I thought for sure they'd have a stack of pre-written bills waiting for the President's signature if and when they got the Congress and Executive. It all has stalled on their signature battle cry - Obamacare. For all the SHIT they gave anyone that would listen about Obamacare and the dire need for repeal, they haven't done jack shit. And now all of a sudden all the Repubs, except for the truly heartless Tea Party douches, are finding a need to provide something else.

Trump is not the businessman becomes POTUS example. All of the VP and CEO level businessmen I have never worked with can actually express themselves very well.

Until such time as progressives sit on the hands during future elections (because the candidate offered wasn't ideologically "pure" enough) and conservatives (proving the well-worn axiom of insanity) vote for a dangerous, corrupt, buffoon because they find him "relatable"...
