Well played. Political messages on religious institutions make me a little squirmy.

Agreed. btw, I'd personally extend that sentiment to "cute" pop culture messages on billboards outside church facilities. While I can appreciate the humor (even with the one posted above), it blurs the lines between the sacred and the profane (i.e., it places the focus in the wrong place).

If a church wants to criticize or support laws or policies in a general sense rather than attacking particular parties or politicians (or advocating for same) and does so from a biblical standpoint, that is certainly within the great American tradition of churches taking stances on cultural issues. In fact, many churches during the Revolution preached fiery political sermons that would have people apoplectic today.

https://www.amazon.com/Political-Ser.../dp/0865971811

If the church in question (assuming that the pic is real & not photo-shopped) wanted to preach sermons supporting or condemning particular currents in society along with accompanying government actions, that is part of the job of the church. For instance, if the church referenced above wanted to actively support DACA as being an application of biblical principles, why shouldn't they? But when they attack or support particular candidates & parties, that makes me uncomfortable even if it should be allowed.

Churches should pray for all people throughout the world, including their own nation and their elected officials and their appointees.

I don't take it as confrontation, I'm just playing the "but so & so" deflection game.

Sorry to disappoint you, but as someone who didn't vote for Clinton I could not care less if she is made fun of. The motive behind the meme is pure deflection, which is trying to dismiss Trump whining like a baby because of people questioning the attendance at his inauguration.
