Actually surprised that more of these rioters weren't prosecuted for their crimes.

Re: 18 year old Michael Brown shot by police in Ferguson, Mo., & ensuing civil unrest

Starbucks is opening its first cafe in Ferguson. It is contracting with local and minority firms. It is teaming up with a local non-profit.

Starbucks certainly has the best of intentions.

What the actual results will be will up to the people who live in the community.

Will they treat this Starbucks the same way that people in most neighborhoods treat their local Starbucks?

Or, will they smash the windows, loot it, and burn it down?

Only time will tell.

Ferguson’s first Starbucks opens Saturday

April 29, 2016

When Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz visited Ferguson last year, he saw the still-visible signs of unrest. But he also saw promise, and in July the company announced it would open a location there and partner with a local nonprofit to create job training opportunities.

On Saturday, Ferguson’s first Starbucks will open at 10776 West Florissant Ave., the company said Friday.

“Ferguson is grateful to Starbucks for recognizing the strength and resilience of our community by choosing to invest here,” Ferguson Mayor James Knowles III said in a release. “Ferguson and the greater North County region have both obstacles to overcome, but also great potential.”

Starbucks hired 28 employees, and Ferguson local Cordell Lewis will manage the cafe. It will serve cakes from Natalie’s Cakes & More, a Ferguson-based business that was destroyed during the 2014 riots. Simms Building Group, a local and minority-owned firm, was the general contractor, Starbucks said in a release. Otis & Clark Properties was the developer.

The Ferguson location also will partner with the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis to provide on-site job training for young people.

“Starbucks opening in this community means the company sees what Ferguson can become,” Lewis said in a release. “It has its challenges, and we have to have those conversations, but we also have so many young men and women with a lot to offer.”

The Ferguson cafe is part of a companywide effort to open cafes in about 15 low- to medium-income communities across the country by 2018.

Low-income Starbucks.

Now, that is an interesting idea.

DVD P: "I'd like my coffee extra black, please."

Starbucks Employee: "Get out of here you racist pig!!!!!"

DVD P: "I would...but your fellow employees are jumping up and down on my car."

But they did show what happened. I'm confused.

What happened at 1:00AM has nothing to do with what happened many hours later.

Men get along happy with their wives then beat the shit out of them 11 hours later.

He was nice before he was mean.

Still ain't saying the fella deserved to die. But this 0100 tape means shit.

So releasing the video of Brown shoving the store owner and then lurching at him again was the police department's way of making him look bad? How was that not Brown making himself look bad?

Do they really think that claiming that he's a drug dealer is going to make him look better? I'm not even sure what the point is.

I thought there was always video of Brown intimidating the clerk, meaning this isn't new unless we're getting new video of a different time other than what I've seen. This was one of the reasons why the claim he was so innocent was criticized.

The point is, the narrative all along was "he stole the cigarillos." This suggests the narrative perhaps should be "he took the cigarillos that the store owner owed him."

I'm going under the assumption that it's true. But no matter how you look at it, he stole. The owner did not want him to take the cigarillos out of the store. He took them and pushed the owner out of the way. It doesn't matter if he made a deal with other employees as it's clear that the owner is not in the new video at all.

And in any case, the whole thing is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is what Brown did when the cop stopped him.

A protégé of Michael Moore no less.

'Unedited' Ferguson video of Michael Brown in store released
Quote:
Video shows Michael Brown attempting to buy Cigarillos and drinks, and putting a small unidentified package on the counter. The clerks appear to smell it and inspect it. Brown attempts to leave, but returns the bag of goods after clerks appear to call to him. The clerks then put the merchandise away.

That is absolute horseshit and shows you have no idea how police response works.

For example, someone reports that their ex-boyfriend stole the keys to their car and drove away. Police have no reason to believe this is a violent criminal and the response will be as such.

However, if the report is that the ex-boyfriend assaulted a family member and took the keys, now the police are looking for a violent car thief and the response will be different.

You cannot separate the background from the incident. You just can't.

For the record, it is a tragedy that Michael Brown died, but you don't get to say that all that matter is the stop itself because that's nonsense.

Even only the stop itself involved Brown punching the cop and reaching for his gun. But all that matters was that Brown wasn't able to get his gun and was unarmed at the time of his shooting.

IIRC, the police officer didn't stop Mike Brown because he connected him to the robbery, it was because Brown and his friend were walking in the middle of the street. link

But is it the store owner in both videos? The first video is at 1:30 in the morning and it looks like three young guys working behind the counter.

Mike Brown came back to the store at noon, which is what the originally released video showed. The guy that follows after Brown and is threatened by him looks like a short older man.

I'll have to read that. I could have sworn that I read that Mike Brown went for Wilson's gun. Then again, that could have been alleged way before the trial, when other disinformation was being put out. I think I remember a rumor going out that Wilson's orbital eye socket fracture or broken jaw. Then when we see his photo from that day it's nothing near as severe looking. His cheek looked a little red.
