Texas cheerleaders wave Bible banners at public high school football games

During a football game, the cheerleaders are representatives of their public school. They should not be posting and waving around banners with religious messages. From my perspective, these acts are unconstitutional.

Ignoring the legal issues, this is just plain stupid and inappropriate. What is the connection between football and the scriptures listed below? There is none.

And since when are high school students permitted to use public school events as their personal soap box? Who is running the show here? The adults or the children?

I believe we are going to need pics in order to determine if this is constitutional or not.

People can and will believe what they want. The question is whether a public institution should be used as a vehicle to promote one's religion.

Judging from the quotes about salvation through faith in Christ, I'm going to guess Taoism.

If only there were a building where people could gather to celebrate their faith, we wouldn't have to use public spaces funded by taxpayer money to promote one specific religion.

Oh well...dare to dream, I guess.

The squad insists this is about free speech, not freedom of religion.

Quote:
"If it was a group that was wanting to post not scriptures, but maybe phrases from a different religion they should also be allowed to have their speech," said team cheerleader Ashton Lawrence.
Looks like it's about religion to me.
And wouldn't these "phrases" from other religions, also be, scriptures ?
Little twit.

It's too bad Atheists can't find a building to whine and complain in so I don't have to read about it every other day.

I think a better question is: who cares? Who is it hurting?

Well at the very least they can argue that this is not a mandatory school function. That people actually pay to attend these games. Thus those attending are at least ok with it (or don't mind, or go buy popcorn while this is going on).

I really couldn't care less as I see this different than prayer in the classroom where poor Johnny has no choice.

Where is separation of church and sluts when we really need it.

I think it's a good thing. When girls like this break, they break bad. It's good to mark them early so you can be ready to catch them when they fall.

How do people fuction with their panties bunched up over every little thing they don't like? I'm surprised no one started screaming "citizens arrest, citizens arrest!" and go after those evil beings. Liberty is clearly secondary if that high.

Militant atheism is the byproduct of an empty and lifeless philosophy. It says more about the person pushing it than anything else.

If they were displaying banners promoting Islam we'd already be on page 5 with all the outrage.

No we wouldn't. That's silly.

What have the courts previously said regarding similar cases?

And would it make a difference to those so opposed if no tax dollars were being used?

Amen to this. I'm not a believer, but I am not a pussy either.
