I must have missed something, because I didn't see the cops harm the guy in any way, or neglect to perform any duty which left him in danger or risk of further injury. I don't see how that's a cop behaving badly.

Yeah, for posting a fake, staged video as a joke and thinking gullible people wouldn't be citing it ad nauseam as an example of cops behaving badly.

Not sure. I remember when it first came out and was very quickly debunked. It was two cops pulling a prank (the driver who was pulled over was also a cop).

Not much bad behavior in this thread. With some of the bias here I expected better from Otter.

Have you seen gas prices, 29 cents is like 4 and a half drops?

It's not so much that, but they had to know the video would get out, in fact almost had to be intentionally released, otherwise it was literally among the stupidest 'jokes' ever. That shows a terrible sense of judgement to a profession that is expected to be held to a higher standard (at the minimum at least when they are in uniform) - that's the real problem here.

Re: The "Cops Behaving Badly" Thread

You're right; they should have realized people would be stupid enough to think it was real. Considering the automatic hate people no feel for cops they should never have allowed it to be released.

But let's face it. It was a joke, no one was hurt, and nothing was broken. They very may have been off duty but even if they weren't what's the big deal? It was late at night in a rural area. Just a couple of guys blowing off steam.

I have been involved with making several training videos in my career and a couple turned out to be funny, using broad parody (and humor most people would not understand)to illustrate situations. This was really no different.

You can't be serious. There are dozens of videos on youtube with officers going apeshit & out of control in various situations. Some serious, some not so. Why on earth would someone automatically think this was fake? It's not like he just went up and shot him, he just appeared to blow up at someone and walked away - that is 100% plausible. Although after thinking about it, I guess I should have known better, after all in the video he let him off with just a warning..

And this is the cops behaving badly thread, it's supposed to be automatic hate. I'll fully admit that probably 90+ percent of the police out there are good guys, trying to help people, do the right thing and not trying to fuck over the citizenry for no apparent reason. There are also some bad apples who need to be removed from the job, that aren't because of the buddy system/thin blue line, union power & other reasons.

I'll agree. Although I fail to see the funny part of the joke, maybe it's just police humor.

Actually that looked justifiable to me. He could have been playing possum. He knew he was going to get a beat down.

Re: The "Cops Behaving Badly" Thread

Yea. I've never been in a bad situation with cops. But they should be mentally and emotionally above that kind of nonsense. Being a cop doesn't mean that you use 'bar room mentality' and that kind of junk, even when that's how the other person is acting. No matter what the other person does, police need to keep their cool. If they can't, they should be working Security somewhere (a private enterprise), not publicly funded cops.

And those staged videos are lame and counterproductive. There's hundreds of popular, staged videos on Youtube.
