Thad McCotter's "How to speak democrat"

your tax dollars at work. I wonder how much money was spent to make those charts.

Wow.

I guess when the voters in Michigan wise up and kick his ass to the curb, he can get a job in talk radio.

That was funny.

The best part was that most of it was pretty accurate...

Really, can someone clarify what was happening here? Did he just have floor time and decide to do this? Who was watching? What kind of proceeding exactly?

I'm strongly considering a motion to tar and feather.

I'm not sure if Thad McCotter taught me how to speak Democrat, but he certainly taught me how to speak douche.

What would be your reaction if a Democrat took floor time to make a "how to speak republican" speech?

Itís rather sad that an elected official would waste his time with such rubbish.

I can just imagine the Congressman and his staff working on that one in his office, they were probably slapping themselves on the back in hysterical laughter thinking they were oh so clever and funny.

Hopefully when he comes up for re-election his opponent will use this clip repeatedly to demonstrate to the voters that while they are hard at work every day just trying to make a living this is how Thad is working for you.

That would be completely difficult, as anybody doing so would be a traitor. Not by giving the speech, mind you, but by joining the Democratic party in the first place!

Was this part of a filibuster? I've seen some wacky things on the floor during a filibuster.

People here are pissed because it's true.
Best one: "The rich means you."
Democrats: "The democrats will only tax the rich."
Translation: "The democrats will only tax you."

Thad McCotter is in the House of Representatives, so sadly, not only was this not a fillibuster, but he had to go to the Republican House leadership and reserve time to give that presentation and they had to affirmatively say "Yes, Representative McCotter. You may have time on the floor of the United States House of Representatives to give your presentation on How to Speak Democrat."

As long as it takes time away from passing bills I'm all for how to talk Esperanto, Chipmunk, or Martian speeches. Unfortunately, I'm afraid this probably didn't accomplish that.

Somebody should tell him you're not supposed to do your Comedy Club tryouts on the House floor.

On second thought maybe that is a good place for them.

That was the most ham-handed, santimonious thing I have seen... since that "I'm Voting Republican" YouTube clip from a couple weeks back.

New rule - no more irony unless you can do it properly.

EDIT - And I've never been prouder to be a Michigander. Yikes.

I have a friend whose first name is Fielding.

He's a nice guy - even though he's a lawyer.

Terrible bridge player though.

I thought the forum might be interested in that tidbit.

Nice generalization...
