First Lady Michelle Obama booed as honorary starter for Ford 400

NASCAR fans booed First Lady Michelle Obama and Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, before the start of the Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Obama and Biden servied as Ford 400 Grand Marshals, where they addressed the drivers’ meeting Sunday afternoon before presiding over the cermonial starting of the engines for Sunday's race.

The First Lady and Dr. Biden were invited to the season-ending event to bring awareness to their Joining Forces initiative, which supports military families.

“I know this is a big day for all of you so we’re not going to take up your time because you need to be focused,” Obama said. “We just wanted to stop by and say thank you. NASCAR has just been amazing in terms of its support not just today, but everyday of military families.

“What Joining Forces is trying to do is rally the country to make sure these families feel the same kind of support from this country they’ve given us. One percent of our country serves and they protect the freedoms of the other 99 percent of us. ...

“These military families are stepping up in ways that are amazing. Days like this just remind them they do have a country that cares and appreciates what they do, and it means so much to them.”

Obama and Biden attended a special barbeque lunch with service members and their families in advance of giving the “Gentlemen, start your engines” order for the 3:20 p.m. race. As they performed that function, boos could be prominently heard before the roar of the engines.

Fuck you, you troglodytic redneck pieces of shit. Not only is she the First Lady and there for a good cause, she is there for a good cause that you claim to hold near and dear to your hearts.

Jesus Christ people deal with it, it's called freedom of speech, it's that thing you consider a one way street.

BTW, you wouldn't believe how many "Union" working NASCAR fans are out there in the crowd, it's a pretty large number of 100% certified card carrying Democrats. And from the sound of it they're collectively finished with sitting around waiting for this magical "change" to take place.

I do too -- even though they were both Republicans, I thought Thompson and Edgar were both decent men who worked hard to do what was right for the state, even if I didn't always agree with their approaches.

(BTW, you mean George Ryan -- Jim Ryan was the sacrificial lamb who ran against Blago after they were getting ready to cart George off to jail and before everyone realized that Blago belonged in the next cell. Based on my perception of the average NASCAR fan, they weren't booing Mrs. Obama because of her husband's politics, but because it was only too obvious, since she was not in a car, that there was absolutely NO chance of her being splattered all over the tracks in a fiery, bloody carnival of a death scene. I mean, isn't that the kind of thing they go and sit there four hours just PRAYING will happen to some driver? And then of course, they go on to establish the mawkish tributes that are such a standard trailer-park sight nowadays. "Dale Earnhardt: in the arms of Jesus now."
