The following infractions are a partial list of what will lead to a one week exile from the Politics Forum.

Repeatedly turning discussions toward the poster instead of the topic
Overly aggressive behavior toward other members
Repeated generalized attacks against groups of people for their political beliefs, whether members here or not
Repeated trolling
Threadcrapping

This will be enforced by putting the member into a group that has no access to the Politics Forum. Just as with suspensions, if we find that the member signs up with a new account or in any manner uses another account in order to circumvent this exile they will be banned from DVD Talk.

A member will be allowed two of these temporary exiles. If one more infraction occurs that would cause their third exile they will be permanently banished from the Politics Forum.

you can mention the merits and infirmities but be specific, general blanket statements will not be acceptable

"Analysis" is fine, silly one-liners which only contain generalizations are not. It's these types of hit and run posts where a poster expresses "absolute certainties" (aka silly gross generalizations) that get on my (and most people's) nerves.

One last time, I have no problem with arguments. If you show me a well thought out argument I'll address it. If you show me a one-liner with a blanket statement, a gross generalization, or a stereotype (which in no way, shape or form constitutes an "argument"), without any intelligent discourse to back it up, I'm going to dismiss it.

Just to save you all some time, the thinking around the generalized attacks is that we don't want to keep seeing the same "all you liberals are stupid", "republicans are greedy and heartless" type statements. You can still have problems with particular groups and their ways of thinking but we're not going to allow repeated streams of the same negative rhetoric from the same people.

Look Vandelay, I get it, but nobody here is referring to "the sky is blue" or "the nazis were bad" when they talk about generalizations. It's the right, left, liberals, conservative, Dems, Reps, Europeans, Americans, capitalists, socialists, christians, muslims, etc... are all "insert generalization here" type of statements that most people have a problem with.

If that were the case it would be easier to be more dismissive of them. The problem is they frequently become the topic of the thread and derail the conversation.

No, this challenger simply ignores the question and moves on to the next silly one-liner. In fact, almost all of his replies are two sentences or less.

For example, would the two following statements be acceptable?"
