Hypothetical question - who would win in a war between USA vs. the European Union
Looking for any analysis on who would win a hypothetical war (God forbid) between USA vs. the EU. I'm talking the entire EU that is shaded in blue: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:E...ames_isles.png
Thanks |

There are no winners in war
![]() Considering we live in a nuclear age it would probably be a stalemate with everyone dead.

If we took the "scorched earth" approach and just nuked away, the US would win hands down.

The only way that this would be a fair fight is if the US forces staged in europe fought on the EU side

I seriously doubt that GB would go to war with its former colony.

Quick, let's do the war now before they get Bulgaria.
And this would only be fair if we could use NAFTA. |

I think it would mostly depend upon what starts it, why people are fighting and what one considers "victory".

It might be tougher in a couple of decades when there will be a couple of Islamic Republics in western Europe.

Conventional War:
EU absolutely cannot project power at a distance. They could never maintain/protect the supply lines to come here and wage war. The US can project more power at more distance than anybody, but I am not sure we could project enough to win a ground war in Europe against Europe, where they would have short supply lines. We've taken quite a "peace dividend" too following the Cold War. Nuclear War As long as we keep Russia out of it (or on our side), we have about ten times as many nuclear devices as UK and France (imagine them on the same side) put together, the only two EU nuclear powers. (The idea of US and Russia on opposite sides of a nuclear conflict is the only scenario where we need to fear for all mankind; anything smaller at most risks a region.) I trust the question is theoretical as they are (mostly) our allies and members of NATO. If we attacked them, we'd have an obligation to defend them. Damn treaties.

You just know someone's going to find a report that a study of this situation has been done some time in the past and they'll say that proves we're planning on attacking the EU.

If Turkey is an EU member then I think that would be a major factor since they may be in a better position to influence the Arab oil countries.
