Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion
they play from 9 down to 2 tomorrow starting at noon.. live audio on cardplayer or pokernews or one of those type sites
then monday they play heads up for the title then tuesday espn airs it from 6pm (9 eastern) til 8:30 (11:30 eastern), leaving it mostly open ended so they don't get caught with their pants down like last year and leave themselves with only enough time to show 2 heads up hands |

Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion
Looking forward to today's final table.
Do we use spoiler tags to comment on the action and who's eliminated until ESPN/TSN airs the final table episode? |

I'd say not but it wouldn't hurt. People should know to stay out of the thread if they don't want to be spoiled.

Yeah...I was hoping they'd televise the Final 9, instead of 14 down to 9. Eh.

I was also shocked that Schulman is only like 35. He looks at least 50. Will be rooting for Ivey first, Moon second. I like Darvin. He's got the sense to know that he's not overly talentend and just running really well. It's a humility a guy like Begliter could use. Oh, and I also like the kid who looks like Joe Mauer (only skinnier and with a bigger nose). I forget his name. |

Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion
Getting max value out of his good hands is a good move. Granted, he's had a TON of good hands, but ... he sells a loose-cannon persona very well, but really just plays good, fairly vanilla tight aggressive poker. While everybody else is trying to be fancy and make advanced plays, Darvin's pretty much playing what he's dealt, getting it in when he's ahead, mucking when he's behind. There's something to be said for solid, tight-aggressive poker.

Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion
For those of you hoping to avoid spoilers when watching tonight's show ... STAY AWAY FROM YAHOO!!!
It's right out there on the main page ... you don't even have a second to look away. I wasn't even going there for any reason ... Yahoo's been my homepage for ages, and I booted up and it just hit me before I could react.Last edited by brainee; 11-10-09 at 07:55 AM. |

Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion
Just reading the highlights from ESPN's blog, sounds like it should make for some pretty good TV.

Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion
Though it is making me
to see nearly 1000 comments already on the Yahoo story ... with most of them thowing down curses upon the heads of Yahoo editors.ESPN was much more tactful - they just have a news item that touts a new poker champ was crowned (you have to click on the link to see who won). |

For those recording the episodes, make sure you pad the shit out of your recording with extra time. Word was that they were given a semi-open-ended time block to broadcast the final table so that if the table went longer than expected, they wouldn't find themselves in that 2-hands-of-heads-up situation like last year. And given that the final table was the longest in history, I would expect them to use that open-ended time allowance. |

Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion
This wasn't live, was it? For the second year, Comcast or ESPN has fucked me on this. I sit through 2 hours of it on my DVR and it ends at 2:00 with three players left? Comcast has an automatic 'record with extra time' feature, but it never showed up for this- And it has a green bar, so it's in Comcast's system as sports. ESPN also shows 2:00 as the run time for the repeats of the final table episode. So is it ESPN, or is it Comcast? It doesn't really matter at this point, but I'm still curious.
This happened in 2007, and I didn't bother watching in 2008 since it was spoiled by my local newspaper's website announcing the winner in a headline. This makes three years in a row. I'm not going to bother watching again.

Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion
Hey, ESPN, here's a little math tip: You can't fit 150 minutes of TV in a 120-minute block. That's from me to you, no charge this time.
Like Papa Bluth there, I get to the 2:00 mark and it ends in the middle of a Cada/Saout hand. Luckily I was in the middle of the late rebroadcast on ESPN2, so I just set that to record with a 30-minute buffer on the end thinking that was more than enough because, shirley, they only went over by 5-10 minutes tops, right? Tournament ended at 2:27. For fuck's sake... Another thing is they really need to reel in the leaving the table shit. As much as I don't like the cheering sections and stuff, it's far more annoying to see Moon standing there, behind, while Cada walks off to be cradled by his daddy. In short, ESPN needs to get their head out of their collective ass before 2010, especially with spoiling the Ivey results in a commercial 7.5 episodes early. Edit: Oh yeah, and Vince Neil, seriously? ![]() Last edited by pinata242; 11-11-09 at 09:53 AM. |
