Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion
Does anyone else here find Norman's comments usually very funny. I'll usually laugh several times during the telecast. I know he's not off the cuff, but the way it's put together is pretty slick and enjoyable.

Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion
I found that Fair guy's little tantrum over his perception of Pham(?)'s "slow roll" to be completely uncalled for. God forbid someone take the time to consider their position when it's possible it's not the best especially when you're you the final legs of the thing and have already out-lasted 6400 people. It's not like he was making a show for the all-in guy to sweat it out unnecessarily.
I guess he has all the same pressure on him, but I sure hope he saw how much of a douche he looked like last night. |

Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion
Does the final table take place Nov 9 or 10? I know the broadcast is the 10th. I'm going to be in Vegas that weekend but I am leaving on the 10th. Thinking about going to watch a little of it if it is on the 9th.
I don't want to look it up myself for fear of seeing final table spoilers.

Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion
Thank god Schnieder is out. Couldn't take his wife anymore. Hardcore way to go out for Phillips and that dude who went out 28th.
I know the fate of two of the big names left, but the rest is a mystery to me. Lots of intrigue. It's fun to watch this late when you still know who several players are. And I kinda find myself rooting for that Darvin Moon as well. Yeah, the deck is smacking him clean in the face, but nobody ever seems to give him credit for a hand (except that French guy). They just keep trying to run over him, and he keeps swatting them away. There's something about him I like. |

Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion
I think that I'm caught up with the broadcasts as they finally showed the episodes for Day 7. I'm staying away from all spoilers for the final table so I don't know who makes it or not but I'm hoping that either one or both of the big names left make it to the final table.
I had no problem with Schnieder, but his wife was beyond annoying. Somebody need it to tell her to shut the heck up. |

Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion
I am a huge poker fan and have been watching it for a good 10 years now, however i really hate the commentators on this show. The humour is really always unfunny and i just find them pretentious. I would rather have some actual professional poker players doing the commentary.

So Phil mucks a winning hand. From the way Norm was going on, you'd think it was god mucking a winning hand.

Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion
I wonder if last night was the first time he was informed with that or if someone during the production of the show broke the news to him in between.

Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion
I would be pissed if someone from the production company told me while the event was still being played. That would be a gross ethical violation. If he was informed after the completion of the primary play (before the final nine) then that would be less egregious.

I meant during the editing process or in the intervening 5 months. The event is still technically going on since the final table hasn't occurred yet.

Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion
Yeah good question. I don't see any harm in it if it happened between the end of Day 8 (or whatever day is the last one) and the start of the final table, since he was gonna find out anyway.
Either way, I'll bet it was hard for him to watch. |

Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion
I just figure Norman if no one else would have been like, "Dude, you'll never guess what I had to narrate today!"
Right, I figure no harm in it happening. I was just wondering if someone braced him for that impact. |

Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion
While I knew Ivey made the final table, I didn't know Shulman did, so that was a nice surprise.
Though watching Ivey back into it was really shitty knowing he'd make it. I'd rather he had a comfortable position so that at least I didn't lose most of the suspense. Tough break for Kopp, and Moon looks unstoppable. Hopefully he's over-thought the final table in the last few months and starts bleeding chips. |

Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion
I had heard about Ivey too. Didn't know about Shulman although he's not that memorable to me.
I knew that Darven Moon would be a major player in this when they started really hyping him up several shows ago. at that guy who pushed all-in with a big chip total with the 3-5 flush.

Pretty brutal missing the final table because of cracked Aces. The player I'm rooting against is Begleiter, that guy is an ass.

Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion
Donking off almost $20MM in chips with just about the smallest flush possible on a paired board = WIN.

Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion
I actually like this Darvin Moon guy.
Begleiter is a dickbag, I stood behind him and watched him for a lot of Day 7. Complete east coast financial industry fuckface. Seems like every year we see someone spaz out and shoot themselves in the foot on the final table bubble. This year it was Kopp. Shoving with a tiny flush when Moon's flop check/raise range is pretty much flushes and sets. |

dont get me wrong - i love the guy. very easy to like. but hes not good - even he admits it. but congrats to him and the other 8. the only guy i really dont like is the former bears/sterns asshole. that guy has the worst table demeanor ive ever seen and freaking whines too much. and when he hit that guy (out of frustration) that was a total lack of class. i hope he goes out first on the final table. |
