Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion

BTW, Jesse Haabak was the guy from one of the 2p2 forums I frequent that I met and watched for a couple days there. He had the A6o vs Friedman's 88 hand towards the end of ep 22 (the second one last night)

Super nice kid

You wouldn't know it from that play, but the random dude is one of the well-known nosebleed stakes online players.

Strange. Frankly, they weren't very eventful episodes.

Thanks for nothing Full Tilt. For once, I had no idea about how things unfold. Way to air a commercial to let us all know.

Stupid.

Why would ESPN allow a commercial like that as well?

You're talking about the station that put the winner in their ticker nonstop during the time between the filming of the final table and the airing of the final table last November a few days later, not to mention reporting the winner on Sportscenter and on their web page. I don't think ESPN cares about spoilers.

Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion

I didn't see the commercial in question, but I had the final table spoiled for me on Facebook by my cousin's friend a few months ago.

[pinata242's cousin] is upset she just read about the WSOP final table!
[pinata242] Thank you very much for not spoiling it for the rest of us.
[dumbfuck] Why? What happened?
[cousin] I won't tell you, but this is where I read it: link
[dumbfuck] Wow! I can't believe XXXXXXXXXX made it!
[pinata242] Jesus fucking Christ! Thanks for trying to keep it secret, cuz.
[cousin] I'm sorry...
[pinata242] Not your fault. Some people are just too fucking dumb to know any better.

Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion

I missed the commercial in question but they've done that before. Never watch these broadcasts live. I DVR them and quickly jump when they go to commercial. Unfortunately, I learned of one of the final table participants somewhere.

Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion

I usually skip the commercials, but I was working out while watching, so ... there it was. Strange that ESPN can't understand that their viewership want to be surprised. After all, who wants to watch an NFL game that they know the final score of?

Ahh well, still enjoying the main event. Really thourough coverage this year, not rushed at all.

One thing that really really irritates me about their coverage is that they almost never indicate a player's position when they make an action.

There's a world of difference when someone raises UTG and gets re-popped by a guy on the button when compared to someone who raises on the button and gets re-popped by a marginal holding by the BB.

Other than that, I'm fine with it. Could do with out the retarded wild-card hand and the puff piece pull-at-your-heartstrings stories.

Which is funny since they do the production and commentary well after the event takes place. I love how Lon and Norm feign surprise at the hand outcomes.

Am I the only one that fast forwards through the mystery beef jerky hand? I find Norman's commentary distracting and the whole thing is really an excercise in futility because it's never accurate of a real "what would you do" for this hand, but rather a series of them since each action is likely to be different from how it would unfold for you. Anyway, for me it's like two wasted minutes.

You're supposed to be figuring out a range for the mystery person, rather than figuring out what you would do if you had the known hand.

Re: 2009 WSOP Main Event on ESPN Discussion

No, I get that. It's just for me, it's pointless and the players involved have far more information than I have anyway. Plus at my table I don't have some jackass running scenarios through my ear.

You'd be surprised at how many people out there still think Lon & Norm still call the shots as if they were there live

Same with Sexton & Van Patten on WPT.

That old couple that cheers (and I presumes follows him from tourney to tourney) for Phil Ivey is really creepy.
