Didn't see the hand in question yet but if he's a big stack its advantageous for him to keep the bubble period open as long as possible. Easy chips to steal.

I don't really think there's much advantage to be gained when the bubble is at 600+ players -- the bubble is likely to burst the next hand or the one after it.

And I seriously doubt that's what his thought process was, given that he's wearing a KU jersey and likely doesn't have thought processes

the only thing that even comes close to making sense is that he wanted that guy to cash for whatever reason so getting it heads up with 9 high would have helped him

The problem with the hand is that the shortest stack in the tourney was all in. 3 guys called, so 4 to the flop. instead of having every check it down to greatly increase the chances of busting that guy, idiot bets out, eliminates 2 guys and leaves the short stack with 2 live cards. that's jack move by this guy shows he doesn't have a fucking clue about tourney play. for the record, he was stealing about $12k in blinds, when all 3 players evidently had about the minimum stacks. ok, so apparently after seeing the link again, it was more than i stated above, but still a stupid play by that guy.

There is 51k dead money in the pot. That is a ton of chips at that point, and he only gets called by one of the last two queens. Unless you are shortstacked, betting on that flop is hugely +EV.

Checking down to eliminate a guy when you have a lot of chips and there are still tons of people left is seriously overrated. If you are playing for a mincash, then check it down. If you are playing to win, then take the +EV.

but with 9 high, how could he possibly think he was ahead...even vs a random all in hand. he was very lucky the other guy had 3-4. i dont get how he could gain from making that cbet.

in fact i could have seen the ENTIRE TABLE limping in and checking it down...remember this is for 21k (for everyone...minimum!). even if the guy gets super lucky and wins he is still very short stacked and someone else just goes out on the bubble and everyone gets paid.

He didn't have to beat the all-in guy to win 90% of the pot, he just had to get the other people to fold. The all-in guy could only win 4,500 out of the 55,500 pot. There was 4,500 in the main pot and 51,000 in the side pot.

ooh...right. i totally forgot there was a side pot from the very beginning because the all in guy couldnt cover the BB.

now the bet makes sense. i kept thinking he was betting into a 0 side pot.

It was more than that too as that guy raised pre. It was huge +EV to bet out the other guys even if he has 9 high. Contrary this shows that this guy IS a tournament player and not interested in just cashing.

so just curious, how did that hand play out? since we only got to see how it ended, just wondered what the progression of the hand was.

I started off with about 20 BBs or so. Raised utg 2.5-3x, Joe called in the sb. Flop QQ6. He checked, i shoved. He thought about it for prob a minute or so, then called.

I don't know if it was on the airing but the previous hand he had just doubled up as well.

Made my hand appear like AK to get called by a smaller par. My hand was more standard for online play than live imo. Something I still need more experience on.
