So I just registered for a Freeroll Tourney at Pokerstars...have some questons.
I am still sort of new to poker, but think I can hold my ok if I discipline myself. There is a Max of 12,000 players.
Assuming this thing fills up, how long would this tourney probably last? What are the payouts usually? Thanks! |

Depends on the Freeroll itself as towhat it pays out. But I believe on the main tournament page, the one where it lists the people playing when the tourney is full there should be an option to check the "tournament info". If you click that then it should open up a smaller window and lay out how they break everything down pay-wise. This however, might not happen until the tournament is full and underway.
As for how long it takes, you'll find a lot of people will disappear quick, but I would still imagine that if you go all the way that it would probably easily take 4-5 hours to play. Time to make some coffee...

Re: So I just registered for a Freeroll Tourney at Pokerstars...have some questons.
depends if it's a turbo tourney or a standard tourney
standard 12k player tourneys can last a fuckload of time.. several hours a turbo will last probably half that, so 3-4 hours? but since it's a a freeroll, you'll see people shoving all-in over and over early on to try to double up or get out so I dunno, if I planned on winning I guess I'd expect 4-5 hours also You don't want to see the payouts prior to playing. Trust me. If you do, you'll wonder why you're going to spend the next 4-5 hours chasing $1.80. |

AARRRGH!
So we are not playing for money, but for a chance to play in Round 2 which apparently pays out. The top 99 players of this round will advance. Started with 12,000...we are now down to 587...and I am 284. Any other advice for this novice here. |

Yup. That's how most freerolls go. Takes hours, and you usually get nothing for it.
I once made like $1.13 after playing for 4 hours on a cash prize freeroll. |

Also beware, freerolls aren't really poker. They're a game that vaguely resembles poker.
It's really more of a hybrid between bingo, poker, and a dash of hopscotch. |

There used to be good freerolls, but they're long gone. Party used to have a nightly freeroll with a $5000 prize pool and a maximum of 2500 entrants.
Freerolls now are worthless. If you calculated your average hourly rate, it would probably work out to something ridiculous like two cents per hour. |

There better freerolls are the ones where you have to earn. Carbon monthly $50k, weekly $10k. Stars million$ turbo takedown. FT had a couple good $100k ones recently as well

The only freerolls I play now are the Supernova weekly and monthly freerolls on stars.
Minimum cash for the weekly is something like $55. First prize is roughly $9000. Although the last one tilted me because one of the guys I grind 1/2 limit with that sucks major balls at poker ended up winning the $9000 donkament. |

I consider pts tournies as freerolls as player points are not part of my roll.

I consider those FPPs part of my roll when I'm done clearing my bonus. Consider it "restricted bankroll" at $0.016 per FPP.
