Yeah, I like them too. I'm usually very good at getting down to the final 20% of the field. I have had difficulty finishing the job and getting to the final table though.

Side note: I really love the HORSE games on Stars. People have no clue whatsoever how to play anything other than Hold Em, it seems. Having dabbled a bit in the Hi-Lo games, I think I have an edge on most of the players at these tables.

Yeah the HORSE games are great. You can always count on someone to not notice the game change to Razz and really clean up. "No sir, I'm sorry but your three starting cards eight or higher were no good".

If Stars only had their Holdem ring games, I'd never play there, but their tourneys, HORSE games, and Razz games are top-notch.

I made this mistake once or twice while 3-tabling HORSE. But typically didn't let it get past 4th street so the damage was minimal.

Another thing I like about HORSE is that it clears bonuses much faster than hold em ring games because the Omaha H/L and Stud H/L are big pot games.

I'm in the middle of a tourney as I post this. Full Tilt Poker, $24+$2 NL HE. 1,285 people entered. In the first two hours, we lost over 1,000 of them. I was in the top 10 for a while, but lost a BUNCH of chips when I hit top 2 pairs with QJ and lost to a set JJ. I'm slowly making my way back up, doubling up with QQ and TT. I'm right at the average stack.

Right now, 133 remaining. Top 117 gets paid. 1st place is $6,784.80.

What a night of 2nd best hands last night. Dropped $90 playing 1/2 for a few hours. Seems like every AK/AQ/AJ would miss and every JJ/QQ/KK would find a way to flop an overcard.

When my hands did connect, I was losing to flushes and straights. Absolutely aggravating.

Got involved in a AA v. AA v. KK. All 3 of us went all-in pre-flop. I had the smallest stack.

went to commerce and played some 2/4 - lost 100 with some bad beats (eg, i had K10, flop is 9JQ...i bet the entire way and a guy with AK calls and hits his 10 on river; i hit the wheel on turn, but river brings a 4th spade so i lose my straight to a guy holding the 6 of spades).

after that i sit down at a 40 no limit table and my luck changes. i hit some damn good hands and this time they would hold up. took my 40 to over 400.

My first hand at the new 2-7 Triple Draw tables at Stars...

J J 8 8 8

I guess I should have sat down at the five-card draw tables instead. If only five-card draw didn't completely suck...

How would you have played this differently?

With the amount of players seeing the flop, I decided to check-call as I knew somebody would end up betting out. On the turn is where I made my check-raise but at the time, it gave the winner a flush draw to go with his open-ended straight. If I didn't go all in first, I think I would have called his all in.

Why not push the turn? Or check-raise the flop?

Never check-raised the flop because I thought that would have been to obvious and everyone would have folded.

Didn't push the turn because I figured the re-raise of the pot would have either taken it down right there and give them the improper odds to chase. I guess a push would have given the same results but he probably still would have called.

Took home $120 tonite after winning a home game. 18k chips on the table, I had about 11k and other guy had 7k. It was late and we talked about chopping. I said 80-40 but he wanted 70-50, I said fuck that because I knew I could take him out.

Well, probably next 7 hands he won them all and was razzing me about not chopping, and kept asking me if I wanted the 40. Played pretty strongly for the next little while to build a slight lead.

Final hand I raised with QQ, he came over the top by going all in with AK. I called, hit his A on the flop and I spiked my Q on the river

Played pretty solid except for one huge mistake that crippled me in the game, but came back nicely. Hand of the night for me was when I had AT and the flop came AAT for my boat. Turn was a J which gave a guy a solid straight which was no chance compared to my full house.

I love playing with those boys, I think I have been there about 7-8 times and came out with over $100 each time.

someone help me learn from my mistake here.

first its a 2/4 LIMIT game so i know thats a big factor. basically it goes like this:

i have AK in BB...after many limpers (which is normal) i raise it up to 4 and everyone calls (again, normal).

flop is KJ6...not bad. i bet. couple callers.

turn is nothing. again i bet this time one guy raises me up. i call the extra 4.

finally flop is another blank. i still think i have the best hand with TPTK but i only call the other guys bet this time because that raise scared me.

he turns over two pair - jacks and 6s. wtf?

see this is what i dont get - i know he CAN call a raise with J6 because its limit and only 2 bucks more (and hits the PERFECT flop...two pair and i hit my TPTK so i can bet into him). so basically is there nothing i can do because you get way more crap hands like this that stick around? is it just part of the game?

should i have folded after the raise on the turn? how do you learn from this? what is the correct play? what was my mistake?

and please i dont want any replies like "limit poker sucks..dont play it...play no limit only!!!"

I don't think you did anything wrong. That's how you play limit. You played that right by not re-raising on the turn and by not raising on the river. A lot of players will re-raise and lose more money.

Namja nailed it. Your hand has showdown value so you need to play it with a WA/WB line (you're either way ahead or way behind) and get it to showdown cheaply. You're way ahead of hands that will slowplay/raise like KQ or KT or even another AK and you're way behind flopped 2 pair or a set. Plus, in this situation you had 5 outs on the turn (As and Ks) and 3 more outs on the river to counterfeit his 2 pair (assuming a non-J or 6 hit the turn).

Good call down, that's just limit. Folding to his turn raise is a big mistake since the pot is so large in relation to the bet sizes you need to call.

After three winning sessions in a row at TI (Treasure Island), the streak crashed last night. Luckily, I was able to keep my composure and leave without losing everything. Only played for 1 hour and 45 minutes, since I knew I was running bad, and wanted to live to fight another day. Taking today off and will hit up TI again tomorrow. We shall see.

I am liking TI more then some of the others due to its $500 max buy in on the 1/3 (most rooms have a $200-300 max on this game). It allows for a deeper stack in relation to the blinds, and most tourists buy in short, allowing for more bullying. It is a nice compromise between, say, the $200 max buy in 1/2 game at Venetian and the Wynn no max buy in 1/3 game. CP also has this game, but I am not a fan of that room.

Not sure what has happened within the last 6-8 months but my heads up game is unstoppable. Before I dreaded getting heads up since I would always lose. After reading a few books, articles, posts, etc. It seems like I cannot lose heads up.

I think the biggest trait for a great heads up player is patience. It seems like almost every time I am in heads up, I usually end up winning or gaining most of the chips when my opponent makes mistakes.
