A sign of things to come?

just got this email

Quote:
Dear Eurobet Customer,

Please be advised that in the light of recent actions by US regulators,
Eurobet has regretfully taken the decision to cease taking any business
through its websites from U.S. residents with immediate effect. U.S.
residents will no longer be able to transact with our websites and all
accounts held by U.S. residents have now been closed.

We are contacting you because we believe that, based on the personal details you have provided us, you are a US resident and therefore affected by this decision.

Where we already have your payment details we will refund any outstanding balance using that method within 7 days from today. If we do not have the necessary details please contact us on +44 1483 773224 or via email at uscustomerservice@eurobet.com to confirm how you wish any existing balances on your account should be repaid including the appropriate financial details.

We commit to processing such refund with 7 days of receiving your payment instructions.

On behalf of the entire Eurobet team we apologise for the inconvenience causedand thank you for your previous custom.

Kind regards,

Emma Jordan
Head of Services
Eurobet.com
With BetOnSports executive being arrested (in part because a large part of his profits come from US gamblers), it seems other gambling sites are getting scared.

Is this a sign of things to come? It would suck if this was just the first of a bunch of emails like this that I get. Hopefully the sites that have money in them I have forgotten about will close and send me some money.

I'm hoping that a clerical error at Eurobet occurs where my $0.86 in my account turns into $86,000 and they send it to me.

I still don't know how prosecutors are going to be able to win this case vs betonsports. They do not have jurisdiction in the Carribbean. They have no way to get the business records to prove criminal activity. Then you have a Wire Act which is hazy on whether this is actually a crime.

It is a scare tactic IMO.

It seems to be working, at least a little. Bodog had a marketing conference scheduled during the main event, at which their CEO was scheduled to attend. The conference was cancelled after the arrest of the BetOnSports CEO.

All Grand Virtual software casinos have stopped accepting US customers as well.

Frankly, any owner of such a website has no need to worry unless he actually sets foot in the US.

BetOn's exec was arrested when he set foot in the US.

Also, I'm not so much worried about them getting arrested as I am worried that the many more sites might start banning US players.

All this is is a knee-jerk reaction by an offshore gaming site in response to a bill that passed the house but is nowhere near becoming a law yet.

Worry about the bill passing the Senate (if it even gets there) first.

BetonSports's CEO was arrested because their site had been taking sports wagers over the phone lines, which has been illegal in the US for over 40 years now.

Unless of course you are gambling on a 4-legged animal, which is so hypocritical.

All this has me longing even more for the Sky+ system I saw when I was in England in April... being able to bet on sports over the TV. I'm not sure anything could beat that.
