I'll still miss The Desert Inn though. Beautiful hotel/casino - that was the first place I ever stayed in Vegas.

What is the status of the city-wide monorail?

I wonder what color it will light up? They need something cooler than the standard white that seems be to taking over.

The monorail is going to be key..i heard it is eventually going to connect to the airport and that another strip-length one is planned for across the street.....

The monorail will usher in a new era in Las Vegas.

Getting on the 'rail while drunk will FORCE people to listen to your drunken missives, as there is no escape for the innocent bystander.

I can't wait.

Pure torture.

Thankfully I have my Masque Slots and Hoyle Casino 2004 games to kind of hold me over. The hardest part is that I promised myself NO CASINOS until my trip to Vegas.

For what it's worth, I dropped $1k into Steve Wynn's stock (ticker: WYNN) yesterday. All the trends indicate that Vegas is on the rise after a lull in the 90's and with Wynn's new casino coming in 15 months, I thought I'd take the chance. I'm thinking of putting some cash into IGT's stock, as their ticket-in-ticket-out slots are becoming immensely popular and becoming a permanent fixture in casinos nationwide.

I been staying away from casinos lately also but have been playing poker online and still bet on football online. I have watched some of the gambling stocks for a while and wish I'd have invested in them instead of losing my money to them. When (ok ok if) I come back from Vegas with any money I'll probably put that into some more stocks (right now I have Tivo which is up a good chunk in last week)

A friend and I are already planning a trip in late 2005 or 2006 to Atlantis, the big resort island casino in the Bahamas. This fall we are going to maybe try an Atlantic City trip since we've never been there before.

I'm doing Atlantic City in May, myself. First time out there for me too. Atlantis sounds like a blast! Of course, none of my friends have the cash right now to shell out for an off-shore trip since we're all still fairly young and some are digging out of debt, but it's something to think about down the road.

you going to be there over superbowl weekend? I was there 2 years ago for the superbowl and it was awesome (other than getting the flu and feeling shitty by game time) we went to the party at Paris for like $50-60 a person and it was cool, the game was on a 50' screen and its a 1200 seat stadium so it was almost like being at a game. you got all beer/wine you could drink and same with food (they had tons of stuff) wanted to go this year but just to expensive that weekend

I realize this has passed, but I've got a question about this:

Quote:
Sahara : $15,000 3-Card Poker Tournament - January 11-14. The entry fee is $149 (based on 100 entrants) and includes three free hotel nights during the tournament. Call 702-737-2361 for more information or to register for the tournament.
Lets say you front the $150 for the entry fee. Do you still have to front your own bankroll for the tournament, or do they give everybody some equal number of playing chips to start with? If the only out of pocket cost is $150, this is a great deal since your room is comped all 3 nights.

Usually, every one that I've seen the $150 covers XXX amount of starting chips. With this type of tourny there is probably no re-buy or anything. So the only cost to you is the $150 registration fee.

Yes. Going up fri, and coming back mon sometime.

I have no clue what we're doing for the game. We have no tickets or anything paid for yet for that.. Did you pay for that party you did just like day of, or is this something I should be looking into?

We have a pretty big party going, and we got tickets to see O sat, that's the only planned thing we're doing, that and watch the superbowl somewhere..

We're staying at luxor, cheapest place we could find, plus never stayed there yet.. so I'm looking forward to checking it out, it sorta looks shady to me though..

Previously stayed at: NyNy, Bellagio, Flamingo, Paris

in tournaments you pay your entry fee and then everyone gets T1000 chips (1000 tournament chips)

but also sunday-thursday at Saraha is not going to cost you much over $150 and unless you like 70 year old cocktail waitresses I wouldn't stay there (again, did my first trip and it sucked) cause you'll spend a bunch in taxi fares to get to where you really want to be

Well in that case, that's a helluva deal then. $150 for 3 nights and the tournament ends up being mostly free, plus it eats up a lot of your time that you'd normally probably lose your cash gambling with.

With the new monorail opening in a few weeks, staying anywhere where there is a station for $50 a night is a great deal, IMO

haha when we went for Superbowl we stayed at Luxor (for like $740 for Fri/Sat/Sun nights for the price I wasn't impressed but was a room) if you want to go to a Superbowl party and have seats you better start looking now cause most sell out or you and 500 others will be standing watching it in a sportsbook

What? With Circus Circus, Slots-O-Fun, and the TravelGhetto right across the street?

I didn't realize about the monorail. If it works as advertised, it'll be the shiznit. The ticket purchase info is down, but it looks like a one-way is $3. I wonder how much the 3 day pass is. At $50, it'd be worth it. It even has a stop at the hilton, which seems to me a little out of the way, and takes 14 minutes to go end-to-end.

Besides, the Sahara is known for it's $1 blackjack. Although it can be tough to find these days. It's the perfect place for those who are a $20-50 loss away from the dreaded Las Vegas walk of shame.

I don't think the monorail is that great of a deal (atleast until its totally completed in several years) $3 for a one way from Saraha to MGM isn't good unless you are solo, if you have 3-4 people you can get a taxi Saraha to MGM for $10 If it's $50 for weekend (and who goes for just the weekend? its normally thurs-sun or sun-thurs the people who go for weekend are normally from Cal. and have a car) then that would be $150-200 for a group of people and that a lot of Taxi rides where you go door to door without a lot of stops and people cramming into you.

Yes, but the price becomes worth it when you get on the 'rail drunk as hell and other people are forced to listen to your drunken ramblings/comments/advances. Besides, with a taxi you have to deal with a) finding one b) their stench and c) traffic on the strip.

I usually go just for the weekend, btw. 2 days is too short. 4 days is too long for me. 3 days is just enough for me to deplete my bankroll

haha Yeah, I think the average rate for rooms is 150 each night, but I think we got some deal cause my gf's mom is a travel agent, and booked a ton of them for a bunch of people there.. Still that's steep to me, for that place, then again don't know what it norm costs.. I'm just looking for a room, won't be hanging out there I doubt..

I better look into the super bowl thing, I don't really care where I watch it, as long as I get my bets in, and can drinks... but something like you described sounds sweet.. Just hoping a team I have somewhat interest in is in the superbowl.. but I'm not gonna complain.
